Removing really light swirls by hand - advice?

Doing a search whilst I wait for replies but here goes...

I'm in the UK and we're finally beginning to get the odd day where it just doesn't rain or (even rarer) the sun comes out - so I thought I'd do the first "proper" clean of the year.

I have a 2002 Golf in Grey Anthracite Pearl Effect, there aren't any "proper" swirl-marks, but there is the odd really whispy line where I guess I've been a little heavy with a sponge or something. It's only noticable under really direct sunlight, it even looks fine under petrol station lights IYKWIM.

I may just do a wash and try for a coat of Z2 (it's been at least six months since the last coat - should I re-apply Z1?).

I have a bottle of Farecla G10 in the garage that I got for my previous car, it's really fine-grade stuff and as I don't have a polisher I've been practicing by hand on old scuffed CD cases and checking the results under a desk lamp - not scientific but it seems to do a pretty darned good job.

The instructions on the G10 are for hand use and look to suggest side to side application.

I'm wary of going to work on my car with it though (any compound, not the G10 specifically) - when I apply Zaino I use Meguiars pads and always use straight lines, up-down on the sides of the car, and front-back on the front, roof and rear.

I have Meguiars pads, or a couple of generic 6" terry covered foam applicators and some good quality neatitems microfibers..

I'd be grateful for any suggestions on how to best use the Farecla to do a "spruce-up" rather than to remove really noticable swirls (suggestions includes telling me "don't do it, you'll make it worse").

If the terry applicators have worked well in the past (are safe to use) try using that with up and down motions on the sides. Zaino gives those directions because that's the direction that scratches/swirls are least noticable. If you polish this way any scratches you might make will be less noticable and you will also be going across the grain of the most noticable defects you're trying to remove as well.

Your onto the good stuff with fare'cla. You can apply it by hand and it will do the job brilliant.y I used G3 by hand and machine and the results were excellent.
