Wash Mitts

Hey Autopians:

Getting ready for a CMA order....wondering about wash mitts. Everyone talks about the Chenille mitts and lambskin, but what about the MF Mitts that CMA has?? Anyone try these?? Are they not as good as the chenille mitts because they are less plush and don't "pull up the dirt" and protect the rest of the paint?? Any advice would be appreciated.

I got one of the MF mitts from CMA and hate it. It picks up dirt and then holds onto it. I've tried blasting it with a pressure washer, I've run it through the wash machine and it still doesn't release all the dirt.

When I did the CD test the first time it passed but after a few washes it scratched it up nicely.

I'm using Viking 100% Cotton Wash Mitts right now and love. They easily release all the dirt in them!

I do not care for the mit though. Get the sponge shapped one. That mit gets heavy as all hell.

So if I understand correctly, you don't have to pay 15-20 bucks to get a "good" and "safe" wash mitt that won't scratch your surface and passes the CD test??

Intel: I have 2 of the MF mitts from CMA and I have the exact same problem. I bought them after reading that they pulled dirt away from the paint to avoid scratching. Problem is it's impossible to pick off. What's the next best thing, sheepskin? Looks like I'll relegate one of them to wheel well cleaning.

I really like lambskin mitts. You can usually get a good deal on them at Costco. Look for leather on the inside of the mitt, so you know it is real lambskin.

I also got the Costco mits and I have used them last season as well. You can pay $15 - 20 bucks on a "good" wash mit, or you can buy 3 - 4 wash mits of similar quality for the same price. Cotton chenille pads are also inexpensive and scratch free.

Anyone try the Australian Deluxe Wool Wash Mitt from Car Care Online at around $14 per? Any difference between Wool and Lambswool mitts as far as micro-scratching goes?

Is this the one you mean?

That is the same as lambskin. It may have "extra long" soft wool fibres, but I think that is just a question of how short the fur was trimmed.

I only say that it is lambskin/sheepskin because they mention the leather inside. I would always be careful when they just say wool, not skin. I don't want a woven or knit wool mitt. Wool is way too itchy, and I'd be afraid of scratching

Thanks for your reply. Yes, that is the Australian Mitt from CCS that I was referring to. Pricey (has leather inside) but seems to be soft and gentle.

I tested the Australian mitt in the wet on a CD and it did NOT scratch. I just bought some white Viking 100% cotton chenille wash mitts. I will be using both as soon as the weather breaks here in the Northeast.
