Question New Paint Job Advice

New here and looks like a great place for good advice. Just got my benz 190E a new paint job. The paint shop told me to wait for a week before washing it and 30 days before I wax it. Just have some questions.

1) Just wanted to know if I should follow what the paint shop recommended or does anyone have a different advice.

2)If I wash in a week can I use car wash soap or just water.

3)I can't wax until 30 days, can I just use something like Meguairs' Final Touch or Mother's Showtime to give it a little shine before 30 days? Or should I just wait.

If the paintshop said wait 30 days, wait 30 days. They know what there talking about. After a week wash with normal shampoo.

Using a QD has been discussed many times before, on new paint, so do a search and you will find the answer.

QD's and body shop safe glazes like #7 may be used to keep the paint clean during the 30 days.

This question gets asked here a lot. If you wax it before the 30 days and something happens to your paint, the paint shop will deny all liability because you did not follow their instructions. You should just polish it if you really feel the need to molest your new paint job.

3M Imperial Hand Glaze can be used on new paint. I just used it yesterday on my '96 Z3 repaint of the hood and front bumper cover and the paint looks so deep you could dive into it and swim! I've read that the glaze is only temporary and will not last very long but I am really satisfied. I only have 9 more days until I can get after waxing the new paint as my paint guy also told me light wash and the hand glaze for the first thirty days...Michael P.

LOL, yeah most people here can't resist touching the paint and sweat about doing something to it instead of waxing. Quite a few glazes are safe, and not just the often-mentioned IHG. Several Meguiar's glazes will work and the plain retail Mothers glaze is a good product with increasing popularity.
