The first thing you should do is practice your typing skills (or lack thereof). This will help with your hand eye coordination so that you will be able to perform the second step. The second step is to select the "search" button at the top of this page. Step three provides you with the opportunity to read the ton of information already posted on this subject.

Happy waxing.

Red face OUCH

A little hard on the newbie, aren't we??

vodc4 - Waxing black cars is just like waxing any other color except that mistakes and poor technique or tool usage show more readily. It takes a brave soul to keep a black car looking sharp.

As I do for all newbies, I highly recommend purchasing the Autopia Guide To Detailing. Download it at www.autopia-carcare.com . It will give you all sorts of great info on not only how but what to use and when.

If you are new to serious car care then the #1 priority is to learn the proper techniques and use the right tools. Don't worry too much about what products to buy because if you don't know how to use them you really aren't helping your cause too much.

Spend a lot of time reading the threads here, especially in the Detailing Archive. Learn as much as you can before spending $$$$$$ on expensive products. If you have specific questions about a tool or product and cannot find it after a Search, then feel free to ask.

Oh, one last tip: Creating three different threads asking the same exact question is not going to make you many friends here. Ask once and wait for responses. Those who create a new thread every time they have a little question do not last long here. Respect the community and you will get respect in return.

This is where I see a problem with forcing people to register just so that they can read the threads - it discourages searching, because as soon as you're asked to register, you forget that you were going to search and you just start posting questions...

Quality, not quantity in my book...

And, good advice, Bret. The e-book is definitely the way to go for someone who is just starting out. Black is the color that keeps us all humbled, and the book would be a great way to start off on the right foot.
