Talking First try with Zaino

Well I decided to give my new Zaino a try as I had the afternoon off, and it was a good day for it, not to hot and overcast with the sun out sometimes.

I dawn washed the car, then clayed it. This took me much longer that I thought, but the paint was in good condition anyway, but I thought it best to clay the car.

Dried the car

Had a few water spots as the car was drying pretty quick. I went round and got all the ones off I could see, but you know what it's like. I know I'm going to find some that I missed tomorrow.

So now it's Zaino time!!!.

I've spent a lot of time reading threads in this forum and making a few post, and I finally decided to import some Zaino from Germany as that the nearest stockist to me in the UK.
I felt that it's longevity would suit me as the car is a daily driver and is outside all the time. I needed something that would last.

I mix up about 1 oz of Z5 with ZFX and applied it to the whole car with a foam applicator. I was trying to spread in really thin, but it seem a bit sparse in places, but I got round the whole car and had more left over that I thought I would. I wasn't sure I would get round the car with the amount I had mixed up.

So I let it sit for a while to dry. By this time the light is fading as I remove the Zaino with an MF cloth.
It does look quite reflective, but it was a little hard to tell as it was getting pretty dim and no direct bright light for me to make a fair acessment of how good it looked.
So now I have to wait till the morning to see how my hard work looks

But I plan to go at it with the Z6 in the morning and then give it another coat or 2 of ZFX+Z5 with Z6 in between.

I think all the neigbours think I'm mad as I only washed it yesterday, one said to me today
" You'll wash all that paint off that car!!!".
I'm sure you guys can relate to this

Hopefully I won't have any waterspots or I'm guessing I will have to remove the Zaino to get them off, then reapply over the top.

I shall let you know how I get on tomorrow and what I think of Zaino

Any advice or comments on what I have done so far are welcome

Good luck!!!

I am looking forward to reading your results tomorrow as I am also about to do what you are doing. I am scared shitless that I am going to do something wrong with the clay bar and ruin my paint, especially considering its brand new. Any tips on claying? Was it worth it??

The clay bar is quite safe to use. Break it into smaller pieces, so you won't mind throwing away a piece if you drop it. Use plenty of lube (qd or soapy water). I'm sure you can find lots of other tips about using clay if you do a search.

Claying was pretty easy really. It got stuck a few times and left some nice smers, but I just made sure that area was really lubed up then go over it with the clay again and it will come off.
I didn't drop it which was good.
Just make sure you have lots of lube where your claying.

Well I just thought I would update my thoughts on Zaino.

I have applied 3 coats of ZFX+Z5 with coats of Z6 in between.
It went on very easily and is surprising how far a little will go.

I have previously used Mer and Autoglym.

The paint it very new so it's not like it was dull anyway.

It's got a glass like finish, very reflective, and feels really nice, very very smooth.
I would say that it looks better than anything else that I have used and in bright sunlight it's mirror like finsh is quite stunning as you see all the reflection of the sky and clouds floating over your hood

I've read on here that it seem to get better after a few days.?

I'm going a car meet next weekend, so I will give the Z7 & Z2 ago and see how that compares to the Z5
This will be a good test as I will be able to compare my Zainoed to other cars as I'm sure every one will have been polishing there cars to look the best.

I think it would be fair to say that I will probably have the only car with Zaino there. I guess most people have never heard of it over here or would be willing to go to the hassle of importing it like I have.

So my overall impression it that it's a great product, easy to use, feels/ smells great. Very very shiney

M3Pilot,

I can't wait for my Zaino to arrive!!! - I've got a friend in Milwaukee so I got them to ship some to her last week, and she is going to post it to me just as soon as it arrives - the German guy was quoting Euro prices double US dollar prices! So I ordered in the states.

You can imagine the phone call

"you want me to post you an order of car wax! Are you mad????"

LOL

I will post pics of the mini before and after once it arrives....hopefully next weekend!

I've been using Autoglym so far so it will be interesting to see!

John
