Turtle Wax Bug & Tar Remover?

Has anyone used this product?

I saw this at Walmart the other day. Is this different or the same as the one in the old fashioned white can? (The page lists a 16oz liquid too.) The product labels don't read the same between them.

I imagine this is the same product that Jngrbrdman likes except in trigger spray form.

Has anyone used this and can really say it doesn't strip off wax or sealant like the usual solvent kind?

If that one works anything like this one then I'm going to have to get me some of it and test them.

I think with anything you use on the surface of the vehicle that removes something should be followed up with another treatment of whatever was on the car. More than likely, if it will strip bugs and sap off then the carnuba isn't going to stand a chance. I would follow it up with some wax anyway.

Jngrbrdman, I forgot to say, they do list a 12oz aerosol like in your pic, so more likely than not, it IS the same. The trigger spray was pretty cheap too (shoulda got some

) at $5 and change Canadian.

Yeah, I know it's a good idea to wax afterwards, and even though I have God knows how many "coats" of carnauba on top of my Klasse right now, I'd still like to use something knowing it doesn't even have a chance of harming the Klasse.

Anyone else? Comments?

I've used the TW Bug & Tar remover and it worked pretty well. I had some pencil eraser size dots of tar on my F-150 for a few months that came off with a little work. I sprayed the product on, let it sit for a minute or so and rubbed it lightly. This seems to soften up the tar and speed up the removal process. Leave it for another 3 or 4 mins and it rubbed off with a thin cloth. Now the surface feels slick afterwards, but I always hit is with some "Nason" Silicon & wax remover and follow up with Dawn to be safe. I'm afraid the "slick" feeling is oil or something and don't want to wax over it. Couple of coats of Klasse and everything looks good.

PS: These tar spots were pretty "hard" to start so I would consider them a worst case scenario.

I have this product but do not love it...it seems to leave a greasy slime behind on my MF....Kinda hard to explain but if you use it and wipe up with a towel the towel cannot be wringed of the excess.....it kinda reminds me of grease or crisco in the towel...

It works ok at removing tar...not as good on bugs....I prefer the citrus based bug & tar removers...

The only problem I had with the version that I used was that it says that you should wipe it off with a sponge. I saturated 3 sponges with the job that I used it for. I used 2 and a half cans of the stuff. Those sponges just would not wring out. You don't want to try washing it off either. Its like you rubbed the car down with lard or something. It just goes white and thickens up when you hit it with water. Go easy on it is what I learned. It worked awesome for the sap. Never tried it on bugs or tar. It really breaks down that sap though.

What I feel that is TurtleWax Bug & Tar Remover is more greasy than Meguiar's Bug & Tar Remover. The nozzle of TW's is not as good as Meguiar's. Another good brand is Autoglym's Intensive Tar Remover. It's more like a spirit wipe (transparent) and is not really greasy. As for the price, TW costs the cheapest, then Meguiar's costs slightly more expensive and the most expensive is Autoglym's.

Agree 100%. I was pleased how it worked on tar and less than pleased how it worked on bugs. Barely made a dent in them. Yeah, it's kind of greasy too.

My Dad has used this stuff for years, although it was in a can with a flip cap on top. You just pour a little out onto a cleaning rag and dab it on the area. He also used old pantyhose (not his, thank you very much) to lightly clean the area.

This always seemed to work well on his cars, but to be honest I don't use it on my Passat. I have used the pantyhose though and they work great with just good suds.

Has anybody here used the yellow bug and tar sponge they sell at CMA? I got one last week but man it feels rough to the touch! Says it will not scratch your paint or clearcoat but I don't know...I am afraid to use it!!! :scared

So you mean the spot you used it on is still protected by what looks like your original wax, like maybe one week and a wash later?
