Webril wipes to remove microscratches from polished aluminum

I just wanted to pass along a great way to get microscratches out of polished aluminum. I have some CCW wheels that are not clearcoated. Corvette forum member Toque found a great combination to make scratches disappear. Use Adams Metal Polish, and some disposable cloths called Webril wipes. They are used in the graphic arts industry to clean plates without scratching them. Microfiber towels scratch aluminum and leave it hazy. Plus when you use microfiber towels you need a bunch of them. The Webril wipes last for a long time, and are disposable. They come on a roll of 100 8"x8" towels. You can get them on the web, or at a local graphic supply company. Good luck, and happy polishing!

I couldn't believe it when I was done. The nice thing about the Webril wipes is they don't shred. It's a great last step after you've polished with a Mothers powerball or whatever. A roll of 100 runs anywhere between 7 and 11 bucks, depending where you dig them up. I prefer Adams polish, but I'm sure they'll work fine with any others as well.

Thanks for the tip! These could possibly be good for cleaning brake dust off of polished wheels too.

Thanks for the heads up on these things. Not only are they great for metal, they work really well with polish when it comes to cutting scratches in tight areas on the paint where I can't get my machines.

I was not impressed by the Webril wipes. I didn't find them to be very soft or very good at buffing either. I had to go over my wheels with a microfiber after buffing with the Webrils,and I used a ton of them also.

Yes, use the microfiber towels to remove the residue. Try using Hi-lustre silver billet metal polish, Flitz, or Zephyr 40. You should get a good result.

I did a set of Borrani spoke wheels for the Dana Point Concours and they came out looking chromed.
