Anybody know a thing a two about PAINT in a Can - Duplicolor...

winter wheels are in the shop getting powdercoated a eggshell black.
It's the perfect black for me....it's one sheen level above flat and one sheen level below matte.

Ive got valve stems I need to paint to make them blend in. Local shops have flat and glossy and not the *eggshell* black I want.

I've yet to get the wheels back and the 1st goal it to just spray the valve stems the flat black and see how much of a difference it will be. If it's close, I'm going to leave it alone.

Bearing the finish is a matte finish, if the flat black is too flat, I am debating doing a quick mist of clear over the valve stems and then wiping it off ....similar to the effect of how they do 3 stage dark chrome.....just to give it some gloss but then mute it.

Does this sound like a sound plan. I am no painter ;-)

paint it flat, then hold a can of clear coat like 1.5 feet away and mist it. should give you a satin finish.

thx but I suspect the misting without wiping may give it too much gloss.
The finish of the wheels is a matte finish..

Matte *as the color* has even more gloss than the black I have speced.
The eggshell has just the slightest and I do mean slightest gloss to it.

dont whipe it, you'll just make streaks. let it dry then wet sand it. for that matter, paint it gloss black, then wet sand it with a high grit-that should knock the gloss back

easier said than done. It's just a TPMS valve stem...so the nut covers alot of the valve stem body. Can't really sand a traditional ~cap~ that has ridges in them.
It's all in the little details for me...1st goal is spray it flat, pickup the wheels and see how it matches against it.

Color is different amongst manuf. so who knows..maybe the sheen in this can of duplicolor flat black paint is close to the *eggshell* powder on the wheels.

try some rustoleum satin black. I think it might be close to what you want.

Duplicolor makes a black trim paint. It just may be what you are looking for. The call it flat black but it has a bit more sheen then a flat. Here is a pic I grabbed from some one elses post

Plasti-dip might be interesting for this application as well. Plus, it has hundreds of other uses and peels right off if you don't like it.
