How do I clean leather with steam????

I have a vx5000, I remember reading something on some forum before I owned this machine about cleaning leather with this steamer. Never really took note on the best way to do this. Anyone have any idea?

There are several ways.

You can attach a towel to the triangle head and just go over the leather. This method works fine if the leather is not too dirty. Using a towel is best as you don't want to run the rough bristles over the leather.

The next method is to steam the leather, keeping the nozzle from touching the leather but just allow the steam to heat up the leather....jet nozzle works nice here. Then with the leather warm clean it using your fav cleaner and then attach the triangle head with towel and go over the area you have cleaned.

Keep steam from broken leather as you can cause more damage.

Thanks for that helpful link. Do you guys charge extra for this? I need to get rid of old habits, im use to cleaning most leather and vinyl with a light scouring pad and cleaner/dressing.... dealership ways... bad I know.

Wow, Superior Shine. I need to get me one of those steamers. I saw the Pics of the Navigator. Did they smoke 6 packs a day or something.

Either way Amazing results.

Jose Bad habits die hard. Sometimes it gets results. But when you get better results. or can get it done in half the time. Its great

If you try the second of the two methods suggested by Anthony Orosco (hi, Anthony!

), be careful. It's almost in the "don't try this at home, kids!" category IMO. Effective though...

The first method he mentined, with the MF, works well if things aren't too bad and it's a good bit safer IMO.

Superior_Shine- Heh heh, that reminds me of the time I tried that on a service loaner (same "hey, it's light gray" effect too) and had to do the whole [expletive]ing interior to make it all look uniform. That's another method that people oughta be careful with, esp. depending on the brush.

Saddle Soap isn't the best cleaner for leather, despite the name. Strongly advise against saddle soap, as it has been known to remove the dye from the leather.

Yes I used them in the 80's by the dozens naively!

Would I want to use them now - No! I will be stupid!

Unless I want to kill the leather softly and effectively!

Tanneries that once used them would not even touch them now!

It has nowhere to go but hide under the word "saddle" to sell.

Without the word "saddle" that misled, this is soap that you would not want to touch it too, for there are far more intelligent choices than "soap scum".

This is one of the worst "scum" of leather cleaners.
