I'd take it out of the tin first. (Yeah, I know...)

My little sample tin is *hard*, like a rock. My big tin is fairly soft. Extreme difference between the two

Re: What's you secret on getting FK1000 soft
Honestly, neither of my tins are harder than any other similar waxes I have - - I've never given it a 2nd thought. Would the product harden as it ages?

Only if the solvents have evaporated. With a sealed container it's unlikely.

Re: What's you secret on getting FK1000 soft
It needs a good cookin'. I love it with cilantro, oriental spices, poured over a nice steak...
Seriously, why on Earth does anyone need it to be softened??? Put an applicator into the tin, spin it around a couple of times and done. Can't imagine a more primitive process than that.

Well, the stuff in my little sample tin (which I'm still using for wheels) is *so* hard that it simply doesn't transfer well to the application media, so I *can* sympathize with people having issues. It's as likely to crumble as it is to end up on the applicator unless I use the FK425. Yeah, it probably dried out but it does still work once you get it to transfer.
Seriously, this isn't like the usual "476S is so hard!" whining. But if I had a new (large) tin that was like that I'd speak with my vendor about it.

Re: What's you secret on getting FK1000 soft
Anno, when my 1000P arrived, it had two large cracks in it, so it wasn't especially moist...
I wondered and sent the pic to FK but they said it was completely normal.

Re: What's you secret on getting FK1000 soft
I have a can of 1000p (wide can / older packaging) from the FK1 distributor from almost 2 years ago and a newer silver can from them just before they went belly up and i can understand what the OP is talking about.
The 'wax' in the older can was / is softer and quite easy to get product on the applicator. The newer silver can the 1000p is hard as a rock, product wouldn't transfer and i rubbing fast / hard wouldn't make much of a difference.
Trying to slice a little chunk out with a knife and put on the applicator isn't that great either because when i do apply to the paint, it crumbles more than anything.
I guess the formula changed slightly? It is a more yellow color.

Oh, and wouldn't sticking this in the microwave or on the stove be a bit dangerous? I wouldn't want to ignite it trying to warm it up that way

Guys, just use some pressure, then lighten up and spin.
Otherwise use your halogens or a hairdryer to heat up the applicator pad then do the same..

Re: What's you secret on getting FK1000 soft
I can say with confidence that anyone who still thinks this is just "no big deal" doesn't have a can AS hard as the ones being described. I can literally wear my hand out SCRUBBING inside the tin with an applicator.. and then not be able to see ANYTHING.
Last night I used it for the first "easy" time. Here is what worked for. First of all, I have the LARGE, wide can - they sent me this while they had no distributor. I held the can in front of the halogen for about 20 secs. Then, I stuck a 4" black pad on my PC, set it on speed 1, held the can in one hand and turned the PC on with the pad ON the wax. Let it run for about 3-5 secs then rubbed any excess off on the edge of the can. This actually was the first time 1000P was even useable for me. I have used COUNTLESS sealants and waxes, and I have NEVER seen anything like this can of 1000P... I had almost given up on it.

Re: What's you secret on getting FK1000 soft
So I'm not going crazy......that's glad to hear.
I have read where this stuff can be a bear to work with...
I have no qualms about thin layers, etc but it's just *hard* even to get the damm product onto the car...
What are the chances the latest manuf. was a ~~bad~~ batch.Of course the manuf. will say it's not....
