paint repair

What is the process for the minor paint repair service that many dealers and detailing shops offer? Many dealers contract out this work to another person who comes out to the dealer to do this work. I went to a local detailing shop for some minor paint scrapes on my bumper (down to the urethane) and they said they can do a "partial blend" for $180.

Re: paint repair

It depends on the type of damage. A lot of places use an airbrush setup for the repairs.

Usually on something like urethane they'd use a urethane filler, sand that down, spray primer and paint and wet sand and polish. Actually for $180 there might not be any wet sanding or polishing afterward.

Re: paint repair

Make sure you look at the work before you commit. 95% of these guys do work that would make an Autopian want to choke them. There are some guys that do some great spot work, but like any body repair person, its like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Re: paint repair

I agree with Yakky. I have heard many horror stories of body shops that make things much worse, even beyond repair (replacement is the next option). Just check some of their work to be sure, if they do not have any work to show you be very wary.
