Re: Cleaning white paint

Not OTC, If u want white to be super clean & outstanding, I would go with Menzerna SIP or IP followed by FPII.

Dont know if u can get Megs 105 OTC, but it also cleans up white really good.

Make sure u use alot of IPA after polishing - especially on white. I actually use alcohol pads to clean edges and it removes ALOT of dirt.

Re: Cleaning white paint

For white paint I have been using Duragloss 501 (cleaner) followed by Duragloss 105. It's a very good look on white. This combo has been on my SUV's roof and going strong (beading) since the first of June.

You can find these products at some carquest's and napa's. If not you can always buy them from DG themselves. Shipping is a flat 5.00

Re: Cleaning white paint

i second nosbusa1700's opinion. i used Duragloss 501 on a friend's Honda Civic TypeR, and the result was great. No more swirls, hazing, water spots, road tar.

Re: Cleaning white paint

Rob.- The red car in that pic has single stage paint and I'd often use different stuff to clean single stage than I would to clean basecoat/clearcoat. Which does the car in question have (I'd bet b/c).

Cleaning can be done chemically, abrasively, or both ways.

Got any marring you want to fix?

How dirty is the white paint (or its clearcoat), and what's the nature of the contamination? In othe words, what makes you think "I need to clean this paint?"

Got any orange/brown "rust-bloom_-type stains? If so I'd lean towards using the acidic step of a decontamination system at some point.

I'd approach it the same way I'd do any such project- I'd start with a decontamination wash (I'd probably use FK1119 for this), then the acidic step if necessary, then a claying if a baggie-test shows it'd be beneficial, then maybe a rewash with regular shampoo, and *THEN* I'd evaluate the paint and see where things stand.

Then either a chemical paint cleaner like the Meguiar's Deep Crystal Step #1 Cleaner, or a cleaner-wax like Color-X, or else compounds/polishes (which I might want to use *after* cleaning via chemicals, just depends).

Re: Cleaning white paint

Check the FAQ sticky for the acronym table. It helps a lot with the short hand. I need to print a copy off as a matter of fact.
