Dawn.....not such a good idea...

Ok, I've heard that using Dawn (or any dishwashing detergent for that matter) is actually NOT a good idea. Apparently, the chemicals used in it remain on the finish and begin to oxidize it. I don't usually believe what I've heard unless I keep hearing it...So let me know guys....

Anybody??

PS: Yes I know there are a lot of threads on Dawn usage, but none seem to address any possible negative side effects of its use.

Dawn would NOT be good to use as a regular wash. To prepare your car for a complete detail, using Dawn as a wash once in a while is not going to cause any harm.

Dawn usage on paint has a specific purpose. That is to strip any wax on the paints surface in preparation for Zaino. The occasional wash with Dawn will not have the cumulative effects of repeated washings, thus it is safe for the purpose we use it for.

What has been said is right on. As long as you only use it a couple times a year a Dawn wash will not hurt anything.

Even if it leaves a fine residue on the paint you most probably are going to be coming over the paint with cleaners and polishes which will remove a lot of the residue. After all that there probably won't be a lot of residue left in the paint.

Does dawn strip any of the plasticizers (sp?) out of the paint?

So washing once over with Dawn then maybe twice more with Eimann Fabrik Powerwash+ would be a good way to get my car SQUEEEEEEEKY clean and ready for a full-bore/massive-overhaul detail???
