Join Date: Jun 2002 Posts: 5 | car is ruined... can it be saved? new guy, awesome site. here's the deal,
I'm gone all day, car is home in driveway in front of garage. My mother decides to play arts and crafts and spray paints crafts in the garage. Wind blows spray paint all over my car. (car is black, btw.) Mother apparently freaks out and tries to fix it before I get home by scrubbing the paint off with A BRISTLE BRUSH. Needless to say the paint is ruined. The entire hood, doors, front fascia, fenders are all scrubbed through the clear coat and the marks created by the bristles are clearly visible.
Of course I return home, instantly notice the damage to my car, confront mother and explode. I take the car to a friend of her's who apparently details limosuines. He recommends a complete repaint. Can anything be done before I decide to completely repaint the car? Just curious. Thanks

I'd say you buy your mom a claybar every year on her Birthday and Christmas for a couple years just to remind her to never bring a bristle brush near your car again.

Yeah repaint. If the clear is gone through in little lines, then there's nothing I know of to do to it.
It is very unlikely, but insurance might cover it. Very very unlikely.
Glad I wasn't there to hear the bristles on the car. The must have sounded like a kid picking up the violin for the first time

I'd probably be nearly as mad as I'll be this weekend if I get my PC and mess up my car with it.

I wonder if they could just sand down the clear and respray the clear if there aren't any scratches to primer.

She looked so scared, that the look she had was enough for me to keep my cool and not even yell one bit. My mom has scratched my bros car before, it's always an accident, remember that before you explode. I guess I'm too nice.

Every time I try to tell myself to not yell at my wife the next time so she won't break out the voodoo doll again.

So sorry to hear about your 3000GT. What a heart break. If the paint is a solid color (my sister has a red VR4), you might inquire about having the car color sanded and re-buffed.
I'm sure your mom meant well, and simply did not know how harsh the brush would be. Tell her that her punishment is 3 months of hard labor on Autopia!

In the meantime, I might go over it with clay or something to maybe improve the look somewhat. I can't make it any worse. Thanks for the replies
