Re: Brand_new_car_bought_with_swirls
....in my last 25 years of vehicle ownership, I have yet to bring home a car that didn't have some level of blemishes that required correcting. It is best to do the work yourself or seek the services of a professional. Most of the "detailers" working at dealerships are Neanderthals in comparison. The good news is that Subaru paint is relatively soft and (IME) easy to correct. ....I have a Black (MPB) '03 WRX & a TGM '08 Forester.

Re: Brand_new_car_bought_with_swirls
Thanks for the advice all. I guess I'll leave SOA and the dealership out of it (unless they can give me credit towards accessories or a detail shop of my choice). I'll either have to do more homework from this site so i can do it, or maybe have an expert do it for me.

Re: Brand_new_car_bought_with_swirls
...btw, if you're not already a member of NASIOC ( North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club), I would suggest joining. It's a huge Subaru community where you can find a wealth of information regarding your new STi and Subarus in general. They also have regional forums where you may be able to get help from folks local to you. ....it's also not uncommon for local detailers, PDR techs, vendors, etc. in some regions to offer discounts for their services to fellow members.

Re: Brand_new_car_bought_with_swirls
Good to see I'm not alone but equally sorry you are going though this. I just purchased an 08 Daytona Charger R/T with the same problems. So far they've clay bar'd, hand polished, and treated it with Xzilon. Frankly, it looks no better then it did when I started to complain about it (at delivery), and in fact, actually appears a little worse. Regardless I'm not worried it can't be fixed, only if I have the ability to do it myself.

Re: Brand_new_car_bought_with_swirls
yea would have took back to dealer either get some money off the price you got the car for or say you want another car....you can do that with paint problems or mechanical stuff, if your driving down the road and engine feels weird or paint is messed up say give me another one you paid for a BRAND NEW car, my .02

Re: Brand_new_car_bought_with_swirls
Not surprised when dealer-prepped vehicles are marred up, that's why some of us insist on taking delivery "in the plastic" and/or refuse delivery when a vehicle has such issues. Live and learn; it's OK to be hard-nosed about this but you gotta do it before you accept the car.
Yeah, it's the dealer's responsibility to do the job right, but if that were likely they woulda done it right the first time.
Merlot and chargeragain- Welcome to Autopia, sorry to hear about your paint problems.
I haven't heard of Subie or Dodge clear being especially hard to correct, so it shouldn't be all *that* hard to DIY it if you folks can't find a good pro to do the job. If you could find a member here to do it and show you the ropes, that'd be the best way to go.
Yeah, KAIO is functionally nonabrasive on almost all paint, sure was on my Subarus.
If working by hand, there aren't all *that* many polishes that are both effective and efficient (time/effort-wise). Again, see if somebody here is in your area.

I've been a member at NASIOC for years; I'm MSD over there. But thanks, I'll see if anyone over there could help as well.

Re: Brand_new_car_bought_with_swirls
i don't understand why this happens at all . you guys know better and should be doing a COMPLETE inspection BEFORE you buy the car . i'm not trying to bash here but we see this thread time after time. does anyone learn? maybe the thrill of the new car purchase blinds everyone and they go brain dead when they purchase, for most of us, the SECOND MOST EXPENSIVE item during their lifetime????? good luck in solving your problems.

Did you happen to notice the OP joined this site this month and only has a couple posts? I'm guessing he noticed the swirls, did a search online and ended up on here. The reason this happens often is most people assume that their cars would be perfect when bought brand new, which should be true, but unfortunately that's not the case 99% of the time.

Re: Brand_new_car_bought_with_swirls
There are a whole lotta assumptions related to the New Car Purchase thing...dealers assume people don't care about marring and will just take the car, customers assume they *have* to accept the car marred or not, and most everybody assumes that all cars have marring anyhow (if they even notice it in the first place).
IME dealership guys are mighty surprised when a customer refuses to accept delivery, especially over stuff like this; interesting conversations can ensue
And in the OP's defense, I bet it's pretty rare for somebody to really know *how* to inspect a car for marring. Think of how many times *even here* we have to explain that only certain lighting conditions are really conducive to a thorough inspection...more often than not people think things are OK until they see the vehicle in bright sunlight or under some weird lighting at night and then it's suddenly
