Anyone else have the 3M Backing Plate....

I just replaced the W-DA64 backing plate I had on my PC (it came with my meguiar's package - and meguiar's said they wouldn't replace it under warranty because it looked like I'd abused the plate (wtf??) so I went to the local finishmaster and got a replacement. He didn't have any of the Meg's plates but said from his personal experience the 3M ones were better.....

the one I got is a 3M Hook-It 12,000 OPM approved DA Backing Plate...... its completely made from yellow foam. The velcro seems "beefier" than the Meguiar's does, and it really grips those Meguiar's pads I use......

anyone else have this plate?? opinions??

Can't comment on it but I am interested in what happened to the Meguiar's backing plate as I just purchased it.
I like the goof proof nature of the reduced diameter and soft foam layer for protection.

what happened to mine is that the velcro came unglued from the foam. The 3M plate is just as soft as the meguiar's, and I think its safer yet as its more thick, and as I stated earlier is all made of foam, 100%.

but back to the Meguiar's, yeah the velcro came unglued causing "ripples" in the plate - which led to the machine throwing pads (not good as I actually made contact between the velcro and the car once when polishing.)

I don't know why this happened, I've known others who have had no problems with their plates, but myself and the guy at finishmaster have had problems??

interesting indeed.

Hmmm...I have a Meguiars Plate on my DeWalt Rotary and never had any problems. I looked at the 3M plates for rotary buffers and some were $35-$40 just for the plate.

I was looking at the 8'' models for rotary buffers. I thought $35 was kinda steep so I went with Meguiars.

the same thing

I had my PC from Meguiars also. On the first week, I ruined the plate because I was at speed of 6 and did not use it properly.

Any how, what is its part number? I need more information on that plate . I think I will have one soon.

Wow, that is suprising. I have a Meguiars backing plate that is 4.5 years old. No problems at all. I wish yours had done so well, but I bet the 3M is a good plate too.
