Re: Ask the Autogeek! Question & Answer Thread

To whom it may concern:

Newbie here. My first thread.

I recently bought a Mercedes with black paint that needed help. It was recommended to me that I go and buy some Meguir's Fine Cut and Meguir's Polish and that would take care of the paint issue I had. Not. I now have swirls thru out the the car and have read much about the different colors of pads to use. Can you help guide me to get the swirls out with minimal investment?

If I wash the car should I use soap to cut the final carnuba wax that I put on?

Help please!!!

Thanks in advance.

Spritz Sealant is similar to the old Spray Shield, but is slightly improved. You'll notice slightly better slickness and durability.

I have some Armor All stuff as well from before but thats another story.

Finally my question. When I opened the Turtle Wax for inspection after I got home, I saw that it was wetter around the edge of the tub and some liquid was present above the surface and the wax also had some cracks in it. Is this supposed to be like that? Am I just paranoid? Also, I just realized that the microfiber towels (one yellow and the other red) are supposed to be for their waterless products. Does this matter? I got it because it was only one of two which had the nice polyester edges...

Sorry for the long question!!!
If your paste wax looks cracked with moisture spots, I would recommend either using a foam applicator to swirl it around and mix the top layer back together, or another optional step would be to put it in the microwave for a very short time to soften it up.

I'd go this route. It's just the PDs separating out of the formula. With a liquid wax you can shake it to re-combine, but with a paste wax you need to swirl it in with a foam applicator before applying to your paint. Note that this process will force too much wax into your applicator, so after swirling, scrape as much wax out off the pad onto the edge of the tub. What's left should be heaps to start with. Remember, apply whisper thin and rub it in well.

TW Platinum is an excellent looking wax for an OTC product...one of the better ones.

P.S. Sounds like you're an Aussie?

Re: Ask the Autogeek! Question & Answer Thread

Hi, just wanted to know if I can coat LIQUID souveran wax over klausse sealant or should I use wolfgang 3.0 sealant instead of the K.S.? Wondering because of the polychargers in the liquid souverans. I was originally going to go with P.S. paste wax over the K.S. Was reading the liquid will last longer and may look better on lighter colors. Also read K.S. lasts longer than wolfgang 3.0. ANY suggestions will be greatly appreciated,( I am new to this)!! My paint is metal flake blue (electric blue), new dodge ram. THANK YOU!

If you want the most durability, top the Klasse with Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0 although Liquid Souveran with Polycharger is quite durable as well so you can't go wrong either way.

You'll find that Klasse Sealant and Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0 are both very durable sealants.

My car is a new leftover 2007 Buick CXL with the color they called sharkskin (premium paint, extra $995). Paint doesn't appear damaged bit has some swirls.

You guys are the experts, so what pads, polishes, waxes, sealants, etc. do you recommend that I order?

I have on hand some Malco Nano Care polishing creme, Meguiars Deep Crystal paint cleaner and Meguiars deep crystal carnuba wax. I have considered Klassee AIO and Klassee Hi Gloss Sealant Glaze but am open to suggestions. I am retired and have plenty of time to work on it but don't want to get something that is a problem to remove. Would like to get products that will give a super shine even if it takes a while. Thanks in advance for any help.
Take a look at Menzerna Intensive Polish and Final Polish. These are among the best for paint correction and swirl removal.

Re: Ask the Autogeek! Question & Answer Thread

Since it is after business hours, a question before I call. Concerning the white buffing pad that comes in the box with a PC 7424, what part of the detailing can it be used for, or can it be used at all without a bonnet? One source told me that it was a woodworking buffing pad. Thanks

Re: Ask the Autogeek! Question & Answer Thread

I think it's a light polishing pad that can be used with a light polish to remove minor swirls. You don't need a bonnet with it.

The pad that comes in the box with the Porter Cable works great for using with a bonnet over top. It is a polishing pad and the quality isn't bad but the foam pads from Lake Country, Cobra, Meguiars and Edge are superior in quality and design.

In what instances would I want or need to use a bonnet? Thanks!
