I think my dad has an old rotary buffer also. If you have any other suggestions of what kind of polish and sealant to use feel free to tell me them.
You can't go wrong with either choice of sealant. Both companies make great products so it really comes down to the condition of the paint and which product that you prefer.

I would suggest using the rotary only if you are experienced with it and combine the right pads to the products to the speed setting on the machine. If you are new to machine polishing, take a look at the Porter Cable 7424XP, Meguiars G110 or the Griots Garage 6 Inch orbital. These are the machines to use with your goal is to bring out a nice shine, remove some light to moderate defects and want to enjoy the safety of a variable speed orbital polisher.

Re: Ask the Autogeek! Question & Answer Thread

Is it okay to mix different types of MF towels together in the wash? Polishing, ww, glass.

And should you wash them after every use?

Just to be safe and avoid contamination I will separate them washing all the waffle weave towels together and then washing towels with deeper pile used for removng wax and polish together so the wax and polymers do not get on the glass and drying towels.

It's always best to have clean towels at the start of every detail so wash them after each use with a dedicated microfiber cleaner like Pinnacle Microfiber Rejuvenator

Re: Ask the Autogeek! Question & Answer Thread

I recently bought Poorboy's SSR2.5 and SSR1. But I did some touch ups and the surface is rough and uneven. Can I use wet sandpapers and use poorboy's polish?
What grit sandpaper should I use? My car's paint is Ivory Pearl which is 3 stage paint. Also there are some yellow dirts attached and need to use nails to take it off. Can I also use wet sandpapers to get rid of??

Plus after polish can I just use Meguiar cleaner wax not sealent or glaze??

Thanks!

Sure but doing GREAT touch-up work is hard to do. Most people want it to look like there was never any work done and that's pretty difficult even if you're good at this kind of work.

Usually more and more work to touch-up paint won't make it look more and more better.

A high quality #2000 grit should work; like the Nikken, Autogeek offers you the option of creating your own mini-pack and you can select the grits you want, for what you're doing maybe get some #2000, #2500 and #3000

Meguiars Unigrit Sand Papers 6 Pack Kit - Your Choice!

Note: It's easy to sand paint, that means putting scratches into the paint. It's difficult to get them out without using a rotary buffer with a wool pad and a compound.

You can remove sanding marks using a DA style polisher but it's really not the right tool or the best tool for the job.

ALWAYS do a little test section first and see if you can in fact get your sanding marks out to your satisfaction before going crazy with sandpaper.

If you're talking about dirt specs that somehow landed in wet paint and then dried in the paint, Meguiar's offers these cool little sanding blocks which you can use to remove dirt specs in paint, in the body shop world it's called DIP or Dirt In Paint.

Anyway, you take one of these block and smooth down the edges with some coarse sandpaper so they're kind of rounded and then you hold them on end right on top of the dirt spec and then twist them which will sand them flat.

Then remove your sanding marks.

Sure.

Just to note, for deep questions like you've asked in this thread, its actually better to start your own, dedicated thread instead of tagging onto page 11 of an ongoing thread.

It looks like this is your first post so welcome to Autopia.org

We recently held a class that shows people how to wet-sand, cut and buff, not sure if you would be interested but here's a link to a lot of pictures on the topic.

Heh heh, those are some nicely worded understatements

Thanks for posting that; I wasn't aware of it. Great idea that's probably a hassle for AG but is wonderful for the customers

Re: Ask the Autogeek! Question & Answer Thread

What do you recommend as a spray on protectant (not a QD) to maintain Collinite 845? I've seen Aquawax and OCW mentioned frequently, but I'm not sure if 845 presents any issues.

TIA

Any spray wax will work just fine with the 845. Aquawax/ocx/xmt 360 spray wax/

I like to use Meg's ultimate quik detailer. Which adds some protection

Re: Ask the Autogeek! Question & Answer Thread

New car, about a month old, have two questions.

First is would you recommend getting a whole new coat of wax/sealant etc even if it's new. The problem is, I can still see where they taped up the car for when they transported it, and it's bugging the **** out of me after 3 washes it's still there and noticeable to me.

Second, recently got some light scratches on my car, it's odd because unlike my last car. When I run my fingers across the scratches to see how deep they are, it still feels 100% completely smooth (is that normal?). I am going to completely wash my car today, and if possible would pictures help in deciding whether or not some OTC scratch removal would work, or rather a full compound/polish/wax would have to be done.
