You can get nice results applying wax or sealant by hand. A machine polisher is best to remove scratches and swirls quickly and if your paint is in good shape, waxing by hand is fine. Just make sure the paint is clean and smooth and apply the wax thin and evenly for best results.

Re: Ask the Autogeek! Question & Answer Thread

All the MF rags I own at 80/20 blend. About 99% of the ones carried OTC in my area are. But I came across 65/35 blend this morning for $.50 a rag. Still good for wax? Or should I just leave it for interior and misc stuff?

most likely for that kind of price, they are going to be not of very high quality. you can always try it out and see if there are any negative issues and decide if it's worthy enough to use on the more important areas...

No doubt that all microfiber are not created equal. At that price point there it could be a low quality towel or could be a hidden gem selling for well below cost just to clear them out. Test them out in a small area to make sure they perform well and don't scratch the paint finish.

Re: Ask the Autogeek! Question & Answer Thread

Anyone have any opinions on Collinite 845 on a black car?

I know some people who do it, but I have heard others say it will haze on a black car.

Any thoughts or suggestions for a black car? 2004 VW Jetta.

Re: Ask the Autogeek! Question & Answer Thread

I am pretty much set on purchasing a Flex dual action, but it seems like there is only one size backing plate that fits it, which would limit me to using the 6.5 in. pads. Is there some type of adapter that is sold that will allow me to use smaller pads for the areas on the car where they are needed?

845 is pretty bullet proof and you will love the durability. A light mist of detail spray and a soft microfiber can remove the haziness too.

You can even top with a carnauba paste wax like Pinnacle Souveran really bring out the best look on black.

There is the Edge Flex XC3401 Adapter that will allow you to use both the 6 inch Edge pads and the 4 inch Cyclo Double Precision Pads.

Re: Ask the Autogeek! Question & Answer Thread

I have a silver ml350 and I am wondering what polish and sealant I should use.
I am thinking Klasse AIO and Klasse High Gloss Sealant OR Optimum Poli-seal with Opti-seal.

I think my dad has an old rotary buffer also. If you have any other suggestions of what kind of polish and sealant to use feel free to tell me them.
