Re: Ask the Autogeek! Question & Answer Thread

What is the best method/material to remove what appears to be white paint specks from perhaps driving over wet road paint? It's a white car that I bought used and it has a lot of specks on the passenger side only behind the front wheel and in the wheel well and a lesser amount behind the rear wheel and a few I was able to clean off the rear chrome wheel using Mothers Chrome cleaner. I tried to search the forum with no luck.

At first I thought I was running into the same problem again but turns out I couldn't see it if I didn't have the lighting at the perfect angle. Once I found the "angle" it went a long way. White sure is a pain to work with as it is hard to see your work. Thanks again for the insight and for being patient with the "newbie"!

No problem...and yes, light colored cars are a pain to wax for that reason!

Would this be a good kit to start things off on a paint correction job? I'm pretty sure it is since i saw these products being use on your videos with really good results,i already have some experience with rotaries ( so I feel pretty confident about using a PC ) but it's been a while,i also have understanding of paint and scratch removal( I used to paint and do bodywork ) and I'm guessing if there's an imperfection that the PC and Orange pad can't take care of,a little bit of wetsanding should do the trick? and if it does should i go over it with the XMT#3 or #1 ???

Thanks a lot for your time.
There are further steps you can take from an orange pad and #3. If that combo wasn't removing some swirls, I'd step up to Meguiar's #105 and a yellow 4" cutting pad on speed 6. If THAT doesn't remove something in 2-3 passes, then it's usually time to wet sand.

Since you're just starting out, you shouldn't really be worrying about this stuff. #3 will only remove the lightest sanding scratches, anything else and you'll need #105 to do it right.

And to answer your other post, yes, you can wax over the finishing glaze as it will only offer minimal protection.

I'd start with Stoner Tarminator and some elbow grease. If that won't cut it, then I'd try clay...but usually Tarminator with some elbow grease (or a plastic razor blade in some cases) will take care of it.

Matt, I never heard of Tarminator or a plastic razor blade but will get both and give it a try. Thanks for the quick reply.

Here's a link to Tarminator - Stoner Tarminator removes bug residue, tar, tree sap, gum and more from automotive surfaces! bug & tar remover, auto spot cleaner, car bug & tar

We don't sell plastic razor blades, but you can pick them up from Home Depot and the like.

Re: Ask the Autogeek! Question & Answer Thread

Hi I have a question. I have been using Simple Green to clean my rims for a while. But I recently bought a new car w/ alloy wheels. I used simple green about 3 times without any problems, but yesterday after i finished cleaning the rims I noticed some white stains/patches on 2 of my rims and another stain that looks like faded white water splotches. It looks like the simple green made its way into the clearcoat. Is there a way to fix my rims with products? I know my last resort if going to a wheel shop. I will try to post some pictures if I can, THANKS!

Re: Ask the Autogeek! Question & Answer Thread

Ouch, that does not look good at all. I would try Meguiar's ScratchX with a foam applicator, but I wouldn't get my hopes up...the wheels will likely need to be refinished.
