New Here, Looking for insight on Product Purchases

When you apply a compound, polish, glaze, etc.. is there is certain time you should leave any of those on before wiping them off? Also, how hard should it be to actually wipe off? And does anyone just attach a microfiber bonnet and get it off that way THEN mf by hand?
