Re: FK425 or Optimum Instant Detailer?
Get a bottle of OID and give it a try, I mean what is $19?

Re: FK425 or Optimum Instant Detailer?
I've had a bottle of OID and FK425 in my garage for about a year now. I have used them interchangeably throughout that time on Silver, Yellow, Pewter, and a dark metallic green.
I agree with many of the other comments in this thread, especially with regard to the tendency of OID to "smear" or otherwise not wipe away cleanly. 425 is more "goof proof" and wipes away cleanly and easily.
I also agree with the poster who indicated that OID tends to darken the paint slightly, and perhaps has a slightly more "wax" look to it than 425. FK425 looks a bit more glossy/blingy to me.
Overall, though, it is a close call, and I like them both. However, I still have an overall preference for FK425.

Adding a bit more water to OID makes the smearing problem non existant for me. I like it 4:1.

Sure, but at a price of slightly less gloss. This hobby is full of compromises, isn't it?

I can't see a difference. Lots of folks mist their cars while drying, that dilutes it even more. Like I mentioned, the big difference for me is the look on trim. OID looks much better. I'll compromise a bit more instant shine for better looking trim.

Re: FK425 or Optimum Instant Detailer?
i recently got a sample of OID and prima hydro to test against 425.
i personally like the 425 the best. then comes OID. i too needed to cut the OID down to roughly 3.5-4:1 because of the streaking that occurred on my metallic black paint. on my white daily driver i could hardly see any streaking of course but im sure if i looked hard enough its there. that and the paint darkening effect slightly turned me off to OID. it darkened my deep metallic blue custom paint job to a point where it looked black in my garage.
OID is extremely cost effective though, especially if u start diluting 4:1 like i needed to.
i live in hawaii so 425 by the gallon isnt as cheap as you continental detailers, but i think i could safely say id have a hard time deciding on what to buy when i run out of QD's because 425 is favored that much more but cost over 40 a gal while OID makes a little more than a gallon if you dilute 4:1 and costs only $20 for a 32oz concentrate. if i could dilute 425, it would be a no brainer.
P.S. am i the only one that doesnt like the OID bubble gum smell?? it reminds me of dental fluoride...

Re: FK425 or Optimum Instant Detailer?
Ill just stick to FK425 instead of trying another QD.I like the looks, the easy on/off and the smell isnt to bad either.

It's another bubble-gum, childhood-type smell. I usually hate food-related scents in detailing products but I really like FK425.

Re: FK425 or Optimum Instant Detailer?
I consider Adam's Detailer in the same group. I received a sample in trade and it smells so good it that I want to try it. I will give it a test this weekend.
