Re: I just ordered Vintage

31 pages, and Calgary still hasn't gotten his Vintage yet. Sheesh, I coulda picked it up and personally flown it up to him myself by now.

Be on the lookout for any extremely shiny Customs cars up there, man. I'd also get on the phone and not put it down til I had a tracking number in my hand.

that was really intresting. Well the pad anyway. I can understand the no hd-cleasne, it seems more like a glaze then anything. I have seen a few people not sure it with great results but applying vintage with a pad. The car looked great, i just wonder if there is any real diffrence

Re: I just ordered Vintage

I wish I had proof of this, but I'm just about positive that using any other than the recommended hand application technique will affect both the look and the durability. Here's why:

Alot of the wax in Vintage is suspended as large particles in the, for lack of a better term, "transportation mechanism" consisting of all the solvents needed to make carnauba usable as a vehicle wax. Normally, carnauba wouldn't melt from the temperature of your hands. But since it is under the effects of the solvents, it does, quite literally, melt in your hands. You can feel the stuff melt as you rub it around in your palms. At this point, the wax liquifies, and the rubbing action of your hands is the equivalent of shaking a jar of product; you are mixing the freshly melted carnauba into the "transportation mechanism" of the solvents. And it needs to be properly mixed prior to application for best results. I believe that using a pad to apply Vintage would result in areas where the wax, which is still in granular form, is simply smeared accross your clear coat, without having been properly mixed into the solvents. Obviously, that can't be good.

If you're going to spend that much money on a wax, why not use it the way the manufacturer recommends? Honestly, I think Zymol has the application method completely correct, and people are doing a dis-service to themselves and/or their customers when they don't follow the directions.

Re: I just ordered Vintage

good points i am personally going to use my hands but i found that thread interesting more so for the fact he did NOT use HDcleanse on a silver type car.

I am waiting for Bliss's response to my questions as we speak

Here in one post I'm blistering people for not following the directions, then in the next I'm admitting I'm not gonna follow them, either...

The last time I polished my car, the finish I obained was *not* improved in the slightest by HD-Cleanse. That, and also the fact that I just polished and did an IPA wipedown of the car, makes me believe that the two important reasons for using HD-Cleanse (which are to clean the paint of anything that might prevent the Vintage from adhering properly and also to fill in scratches and add more shine to your finish) are completely moot. If the finish looks perfect and is completely clean (and I can't imagine a cleaner finish than one that's just been polished followed by an IPA wipedown), I just don't see the need for a pre-wax treatment of *any* type.

Anyway, that's a long-winded way of saying that the next time I polish my car, I'm going to follow it with an IPA wipedown and skip the chore that is HD-Cleanse.

Heh heh, you guys are helping me stay interested in the mothballed garage queens, I'll grant you that The only time I really think about them is when I hit up these threads. The price of the stuff won't seem so bad after all this talk...the ole "the longer you're exposed to something the more normal it seems" thing is kicking in

SuperBee364- That makes sense about the HD Cleanse....I simply cannot believe it's somehow all *that* special/mandatory...prep is prep and waxes are waxes
