Question Menzerna SIP for Corvette clear?

I have a C5 and the clear is rock hard. I've tried several passes with IP and a rotary (remember the black & decker 6138?) with a 3M compounding pad with little results (just some holograms for my trouble). This combo isn't touching the small scratches in the clearcoat. Would stepping up to the new SIP help me out? Any pad suggestions for it? Thanks!

Menzerna SIP for Corvette clear?

I feel your pain my friend. I have a black C6 and I have been going at it since January with limited success. I have spent more hours on my hood and trunk lid than anyone would believe. I have asked many, many times for the magic combo but haven't found it as of yet. Problem for me is restoring gloss after compounding. I have some Hi-Temp arriving tomorrow and will give that a shot. The goal is removing the scratching WITHOUT causing too much hazing for it's the haze that is VERY DIFFICULT to get rid of. I do have one tip for you. After figuring out which pad and product to use, do all your correcting but don't apply your LSP yet. Take the car out and drive it for a day or so. You'll be shocked when you see the haze return by itself. Others here suggested that maybe the haze never really went away to begin with but maybe I was hiding it with my polish. NO WAY, I did a full alcohol wipe to remove the polish and believe me the hazing was not there. Send me a private message and I'll tell you what I've done so far that has worked a little.

Patrick

Re: Menzerna SIP for Corvette clear?

Most of the C5s that I have done, I have used:

EC/OP mix/yellow CCS pad/1500 rotary-sometimes that will take 3 passes.
Then followed with 106ff/green p2 pad/1500 rotary.

I will be polishing my brothers nassau blue 2000 FRC over the w/e. The swirls are not that bad. I will try some wool and presta 1500 polishes.

Will post in a C&B after the w/e.

Re: Menzerna SIP for Corvette clear?

I think you'll have to get the Menzerna ceramiclear polishes.

It does work on Vettes, but you need patience and will take time to make perfect.

Would a maroon Megs pad be okay? I can get them locally unlike the LC pads.

The Megs maroon pad will work. I do prefer the LC yellow though. Sart at about 1200 rpm and work up as needed-top out at about 2000 rpm.

I'll put money on it that Vette clears are 100 times harder. I am working on a brand new C6 with 1500 miles and it has water spots that do not look that bad . It took 6 times to remove these stubborn little buggas

I am using 3.02 on a yellow cutting pad. I know I might not be doing to many Vettes anymore unless they want to pay the money. 15 hours for a mild correction is retarded.

Funny a guy called me today and asked me how much to do a 97 Vette black with bad scratches. I told him he is looking at $600 and up and personally I would not even want to do it. He told me to forget it and I said OK with a smile
