ONR....how

well my girlfriends mom just got the new camry last week, and i was just over at their house and i saw her wiping down the car with just a bucket of water and a chamois, and i was just thinking AHHH scratches. anyway i was thinking of buying her a bottle of ONR so she could just add it to her water and it wont scratch right?

i have to explain to her how to use it but i really dont know that much myself
are you supposed to just mix 1 oz with a gallon of water
use a mit and just start washing the car
after that just dry it?

please help so i can save her from scratching the car more...thanks

Hey Matrix let me give you a lesson on how I use it. I don't have De-Ionized water and I live where the water is fairly hard so I use about 1.5oz to a gallon of water. But if you have good water, then 1:1 is a fine ratio.

Take your bucket and put a grit guard in the bottom (if you have one). I use a microfiber wash mitt and get it soaked, I then wring it out to that I am right at that point where I am not dripping water when I move it to the car. I then start at the highest point on the surface and wash an area genearlly no bigger than 3'x3'.

I wipe in on directection and when done, toss mitt in bucket. I then take one MF WW towel and blot dry off area I just washed, and then follow immediately with a second MF WW towel.
I can do a mid sized car in about 20-25 using this method.

I use a competently separate bucket and old rag or old used mitt for wheels.

The whole trick is small area, dry right after

I assume when you mean a 1:1 ratio you mean 1oz to 1gal. A true 1:1, to me, means equal parts of both.

I posted this write up on my car forum, Need2speed.com , because of the local water restrictions in South FLA at the moment...


First off, you will need...:

-2, 5 Gallon Buckets
-ONR
-3+ Waffle Weave Microfiber Towels (I pick them up in the kitchen section at walmart for like $2.50 or something)
-Wash mitt (preferably an extremely clean Microfiber mitt, wool (sheepskin), Chenille, or another suitable mitt like the Schmitt)
-Wheel Mitt/Brushes
-(Optional, QD Strength ONR Mixture for spraying wheels/panels before washing)

First off, start by filling up the one 5 gallon bucket full of about 3 gallons of CLEAN water. This will be your rinse bucket, after each panel you wash, dip your mitt and vigorously shake the mitt to get any loose and embedded particles out so you don't scratch the paint.

Second, fill your other bucket with about 2 gallons of water, and pour the ONR solution in (1 oz per 2 gallons of water, I typically do 1 more capful which is about 1.5 oz's...)

Now begin washing, I personally like to take my ONR Quick Detail mixture, and spray the panel before I wash it. I then take my wash mitt, dip it in the ONR solution, and wash the panel that I'm doing (always starting at the roof making your way down...). Now to all you wash people who go over the same area 10 times, DO NOT DO THIS, 1-2 passes is plenty, and will clean everything up fine.

Now once you have washed your designated panel, take your waffle weave microfiber towel and gently blot the paint to absorb the ONR solution, YOU DO NOT NEED TO RINSE, ONR acts as a wash and a QD leaving the paint smooth with that just quick detailed/waxed feel!

Take the mitt and rinse like I stated earlier, and continue do to the whole car in this fashion, spray panel, dip mitt in ONR, wash panel, dry panel, rinse mitt, and then start over! Once you get to your wheels, (you may presoak them with ONR or a designated wheel cleaner if you like) take the mitt you used for the paint out of the bucket, set it aside and use your wheel mitt to do the wheels in the same fashion.

After I'm done with everything, I'll take a nice big plush microfiber and go over the whole car to get any streaks or water spots that I may have missed, remember to wipe your door jambs down, clean inside of your trunk lid, and anything else you might like to do (engine, vacuum, etc!)

I'm sorry for the long response, but to some of you who actually take the initiative to properly take care of your car, this is a great product. Once you get the hang of it, you will be able to wash your car faster and get it cleaner.

When I first started using ONR it was extremely weird. I felt like I was marring the paint but in reality I was not. Its very hard to get used to but once you do it saves you time and water

For extremely dirty cars a conventional wash is necessary, but for mild to fairly soiled cars ONR will take care of anything :thumbsup

ya im still skeptical myself about the product, but i guess i might have to give it a try now.
