Headlight film - pros/cons?

I bought a set of XPel 40 Mil headlight film overlays from CMA and heard from a tint installer guru that 40 mil is too thick and cause headlights to overheat.

Has anyone had any bad experiences using 40 mil film? The X-Pel film appears to be made of PVC (smells like the poly bags you use for comic books or to hold comic book cards), and measures 50 mil with the adhesive release liner (3M adhesive, no idea who made the film).

I want to protect the headlamp lenses but not if removing the film will destroy them in the process. How hard is it to remove the film that uses 3M adhesive?

Thanks in advance for my noobish questions!

I've had the headlight film on my '04 Landcruiser for over two years with absolutely no problem, and I've had them on my '06 Acura RL for at least 6 months also with no issues.

Did you use the 40 mil film (thickness of a CD)?
How did you install them?

40 mil is really thick, but lamin-x also sells it strictly for lenses and it should work without any ill effect. My dad just did ventureshield on his 06 acura rl and that seems fine. Thinner than my 20 mil lamin-x I think, but both should work just fine. I'd say go ahead and do it. The install may be difficult being that thick though.
