Post Chemical Guys Leather Twins Review

Product Name: Chemical Guys Leather Cleaner and Pure Extreme Leather Conditioner, thanks to Bob (danase.com) for the very generous samples!

Product Container: Perfectly stable, round 16oz. bottles.

Product Labeling: The label is not laminated, so it is bothered by water. The description is good, and the directions are very clear.

Product Characteristics: Cleaner is a thin, runny, and clear liquid. It has an almost nonexistant chemical smell. Conditioner is the same funky orange color as Poorboy's upcoming Polish-with-Sealant. It is a very thick, almost congealed substance much the same consistency as PB Leather Stuff. The smell is somewhat similar to LS, but it is more toned down (no headaches from the CG) and much more pleasant. A very interesting fact that you may not know about the Conditioner is that it has light cleaning ability, so you don't have to completely reclean everything when you want to reapply.

Test Car: Lexus ES300; please keep in mind that this car has coated leather, so your results may vary. It was last cleaned/conditioned with Leather Stuff in December, but it was pretty clean already.

How the product was used: Two seats were done with Cleaner then Conditioner, one seat with just Conditioner, and the remaining seat with Leather Stuff (just for comparison purposes). I used Danase's microfiber applicators (available here: http://danase.com/miap.html) for applying everything, and a clean Vroom MF towel for removal of excess.
Cleaner was applied with the MF app to the two seats, and although a damp then dry wipe-down are supposed to be needed, there were no streaks or residue that needed to be wiped off (I did anyway, of course). Conditioner was also applied with a MF app to three seats, and after I finished doing all three I wiped down excess.

What I liked about the product: The cleaner was mild and safe but left a very clean, smooth surface to apply the conditioner to. It was also extremely easy and quick to use, which is always a plus. The conditioner had a very nice smell, waaaay better than Leather Stuff which gives me headaches. It left a sheen, very similar to LS. It, however, left a more natural feeling than LS...I found LS to leave a surface that would catch on me and after a certain threshold of movement I would go sliding. Then again, I think a lot of the success of both products is due to the MF app...it is absolutely PERFECT for interior dressings, applying an even light coat. I used less than an ounce of each product, which again was mostly thanks to the MF apps. The conditioner does a very good job at conditioning, at it seemed to be a fine, light cleaner. For monthly or more often conditionings, you could easily get away with just using the conditioner.

What I didn't like about the product: I like some sheen, but I know a lot of you don't. I will update as to how long it takes for the shine to fade into fully matte black. The cleaner has a nauseating smell if you decide to sniff in the bottle (not that I did that or anything ). Otherwise, a very nice duo

Product Price: 16oz. for $12.95 is a very good value.

Product Safety: If you don't know how to safely use these products, then you should be in a padded room with a straitjacket on.

Questions/comments/opinions?

Have you ever used Zaino Z-9 and Z-10?

I've tried numerous leather combos and these are my favorite. I have not tried CG yet.

Nice review...I haven't tried the CG twins, but I had a feeling they would be exactly as you mentioned.

Re: Chemical Guys Leather Twins Review

Any other opinions on the CG Pure Extreme Conditioner? Does it create more of a matte finish instead of a glossy one? Also, has anybody used this product as a dash and vinyl conditioner too in addition to use on your leather?

Re: Chemical Guys Leather Twins Review

Bob's Leather Rx is a good product as well. I switched over from Z-9 and Z-10 to use it.

I have tried both... Zaino stuff on my own leather, CG stuff on customers. I prefer the lack of sheen that Zaino offers, especially since the leather in my car is supposed to look somewhat dry. The CG stuff is great for impressing clients as its obviously there yet not overt and in your face. I had someone ask me "Is that it?" after Z10 as it a more subtle conditioner.

Besides looks they both seem to work pretty well, the Zaino being the more refined of the two (as usual) and the CG being FAR more cost efficient and VERY worth it for the price.

Re: Chemical Guys Leather Twins Review

I just used CG's new liquid leather and was real pleased with the results. Nice look, soft feel and smells like leather. Also real easy to apply and easy to buff any excess off.
