Makita Bo6040 And The Meguires Backing Plate System

i purchased the backing plate system for the d.a. polisher ...and now i find out it has a 5/16 thread and my makita is 8mm x 14 mm so the two are incompatible my kit gets here monday... ,, do you offer an adapter, maybee a special hilicoil adapter ....what can i do ...

so I drilled it out to 21/64 then i tapped it with a 3/8-24 tap then i inserted a 5/16-24 helicoil ,,,and now i can use my meguires pad system when it comes.........the makita one wasent bad but i like the self centering ability of the meguires...some one had mentioned that the shank dosent have a lock button ,,,well i noticed that if you turn the knob to rotary position the shank will lock alowing you to screw on a pad ..or backing plate
