E-mail I sent to Meguairs About NXT

I sent an email to meguiars asking about layering NXT and if it contains any cleaners (wanted to clear up some unanswered questions) This was the response:

"The new NXT product can be layered. As with all waxes, only a limited number of
coats can be applied while still achieving benefits. Three coats is about all
you can do - after that, the wax will tend to be at it's maximum film build and
will no longer stick to itself. As far as the issue goes about this product
having a cleaner in it, it's not true. NXT was designed to be put on a
pre-cleaned surface in order to work it's best."

I'm confused. People on Autopia say it does have cleaners

I think we all should except the reply you rec'd from company officials view on the cleaning ability of NXT Tech Wax.

Are you serious??

Meguiars Is A Big Company, Im Sure Its Hard For Every Person To Have Every fact Straight On Every Product.
There have been many occasions when people have gotten different answers on the same products from different represenatives. It happens.

Members tests have shown it seems to have cleaning ability, Mike Phillips Has Stated That It Does Have Light Specialized Cleaners, I Think I Would Take His Word Over One Of The Phone Represenatives at Meguiars.

It may not have anything in it that is meant to clean stuff, but that doesn't say that it doesn't have mild solvents in it that will act as cleaners. Who gave you that response? I'd like to know more about their qualifications to give such a statement about the product. I too would trust Mike Phillips word over someone whose qualifications to make such a statement are unknown.

Well, not so fast. I'd suggest that maybe the issue is what Meguiar's calls a "cleaner wax" and what chemicals Autopians evaluate as being "cleaners".

I agree with the Meguiar's Customer Service Rep's statement "NXT was designed to be put on a pre-cleaned surface in order to work it's best." In my testing, NXT Tech Wax did not clean the surface of my Cayenne. If it was a "cleaner/wax" the surface would have been clean, polished and smooth after an application. This was not the case. I intentionally put NXT Tech Wax on a paint finish needing cleaning to see how it would respond.

If the Meguiar's Customer Service Rep failed to understand the difference between a "pure" sealant that can be layered and a product that has chemicals that remove previous layers of product, that's understandable. After all, most people do not spend their days applying layer after layer of product. They apply, admire and walk away.

In my mind, there is a clear distinction between a cleaner/wax, a sealant that removes previous layers and a pure sealant. We should define that distinction here and decide where products fit based on experience.

Last week we called Meguiar's to see if we could layer NXt over other products without fear of removing those products. The response we receive was: "NXT wax has absolutely no abrasives and it is safe to layer it over other products."

This does not inspire confidence.

It doesn't need 'abrasives' to do its work. AIO has virtually no abrasives in it either and we all know what a killer cleaner that is. #7 doesn't have abrasives in it either from what I can tell. Solvents in those products or other chemical cleaners are what does the cleaning.

To me this sounds like Bill Clinton's "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" speech. Its coming down to what they consider 'cleaning' compared to what we consider it.

Hi all,

I've been out of commission till just now because my computer decided to do something, I don't know what the something was, but I could not connect to the internet?

Anyway it's fixed... (whew!)

Question: When did you send Meguair's the e-mail?

Mike
