Identity of BMW auto wash

I dropped by the BMW dealership today to see if they had the BMW autoshampoo (relabelled Sonax). It seems like dealers in Canada don't carry a product by that name. Instead, they have BMW auto wash in I think 250ml and 4 L sizes. I picked up 4 L of it hoping it would still be the sonax. The color is reddish orange, and has a faint soapy smell, its not very strong. Its neither very runny or very viscous, basically inbetween. The description on the bottle is:

BMW auto wash: Professional strength one step wash. The gentle thick cleaning suds wash dirt and grime away. Leaves a durable, tack free, gleaming shine.
Application: Hose vehicle with water, add 28mL of BMW AUTO WASH to 9 litres of warm water. Rinse vehicle before suds dry.

BMW Canada In.
Part number
97 00 9 100 111

It doesn't say where its made or anything. I hope its good, I bought 4 litres of it!

Sounds just like the Bottles the US dealers sell, ours is in a 1000ML bottles, ours is also orange, it is made by P21S not sonax. Take a look at the bottle every deatil is exactly the same as a bottle of P21S only the bottle is twice as large (that is our bottle not yours)

WHo knows though yours may be sonax since lots of things are different with BMW north of the border, the options for you are so different that what is available here.

I love the stuff myself, saves me a ton of cash, 7 bucks for 1000ML

At first, the p21s bottle and the BMW autoshampoo bottle look very similar, but if you look at the Sonax 1000mL bottle (not available here it seems) it seems more like the BMW autoshampoo bottle than P21s's bottle, and its the same color. Who really knows what it is!

What does your BMW autoshampoo smell like? Is it the same color as what I describe? I can't get gummipflege either, grr the parts guy said it had to do with WHIMIS certification or something

good points, my distributor told me its P21s but it does look like the sonax bottle as well, the color is more red though, like a burnt orange.

Strange part is the guy who told me doesnt sell the BMW brand, he sells Sonax and P21S, kind of shocked me when he told me I could get twice as much for Half price at the BMW dealer, you dont hear that often.

Either way its a great deal, worth a trip to the dealer even if your not dring a BMW

Hey that's good to hear! If the color is burnt orange, maybe I do have 4L of either p21s or Sonax instead of some generic rebranded canadian BMW stuff! I bought 4L of the stuff for $33 canadian, I think it should last half a decade, hehe..

How much shampoo does it tell you to use on the back of the bottle? Mine says 28mL (1 ounce) per 9 l of water (about 2.5-3 gal).

Thanks!

Is the part number listed for the 4l or the 1l bottle? Or is that the BMW of Canada part number?

That's the BMW canada part number for the 4L jug.
THe american part number is 83 12 0 004 826 for the 1L jug. It seems like you can't get 4L in the US, and you can't get 1L in canada. Strange...

What's crystal glo? I have never heard of that! I think all canadian BMW dealers should be able to order the BMW auto wash if they don't have it already.

On trying the BMW auto wash, I have to say it works pretty good. It has lots of lather, and seems very slippery, and doesn't strip wax. Since its a lot cheaper than most other car wash shampoos I have used (8.25 CDN per liter), I would recommend it to anyone in Canada who needs some car wash. It sure beats other cheap shampoos such as Eagle one. It may be Sonax, it may be P21s, but whatever it is it works very well, and is very well priced. I think I will use this as my car wash from now on, well seeing as how I have 4 L to work with that should be a very very long time!

Oh Crystal Glo is just a wax/sealant product. I went to BMW on occasion looking for things like Klasse (US places sometimes have it) or gummi pflege (you know this story). Not too many Crystal Glo users here, but run a search. A few other places sell it too.

$8.25 per liter is good for a quality wash (assuming it's quality ). I've also noticed it's more concentrated than other washes. They suggest 28 mL (1 oz) to 9 liters of water (just over 2 gallons) which is twice as strong as other washes which 99% of the time suggest 1oz per gallon.
