Mother's Clay Bar

I just used the Mother's clay bar detailing kit and I was amazed at how fantastic it worked and how easy it was to use. I had a terrible amount of contamination on my new S2000 so I thought I would try the clay to remove it. What a HUGE difference. The clay was the best detailing product that I have ever used. A crummy rough and gritty surface was turned into liquid glass. After claying I used Klasse AIO and Sealant and the shine and feel of the surface is unbelievable. I can olny praise the Mother's clay as being totally effective and very easy to use. Just spray on the QD lube and start working the surface in an area of about 2' by 2' until the bar glides smoothly without grabbing or making rough noises. After the clay glides smooth then polish the worked area with a microfiber or soft terri cloth towel.....then feel the surface with your fingers and man!!! awesome. I originally planned only to do the upper rear bumper and lower rear quarter panels which were the area that had the roughest feel but after seeing what a difference the clay made I did the whole car. All cars should be delivered with the kind of finish the clay provides. I had never used clay before but after seeing how great it works and how easy it is to use I will add it to my quiver of detailing skills and use it as necessary. Great product!!

I have always had good luck with Mother's clay. I cut the bar into about four different pieces. It is easier to work with and if you drop a piece you have not lost the whole bar.

I agree that it is a good bar.

I found you can call Mother's and order just the clay bars from them without having to buy it in a set with the quick detailer and cleaner wax.

It's 3 80 gram bars at a time - part # 07243. Call 800 221-8257 and ask for a price - I can't remember.

Thanks Forrest--will give a call. I don't mind buying the box--I end up using the OD and the cleaner wax, but having extra clay bars won't hurt. I found that Walmart is the place to get the box set--paid $20 at Pep Boys and found it at Walmart for $12. I hate to get ripped off.

Thanks for the help. By the way Forrest, I believe I came across a thread recently about Mothers sealer and glaze--did you mention that you put it on and take it right off--rather than wait for it to haze? Just curious.

I used the Mother's bar a year ago and was very impressed. The lubricant was the only thing that I did not like. It seemed to go on too heavy and my bar got a little too wet. I'm going to use the Clay Magic Clay Bar in a week. I've heard great things from this site about that bar. My car's not too bad. Still smooth, but I want to start over. I'll probably give a review of that. Good job with the Mother's bar! They make some good, cheap, and highly-available products.

Chewy - I don't wait for Sealer and Glaze to haze up - on flawless paint I apply in straight lines with a closed cell foam applicator, and remove while still damp.

I like the look more than letting it haze and buffing it off - it seems wetter to me.

You can also use a soapy water solution if the QD doesn't work with you.

Will try your method with the Sealer and Glaze. Gave the company a call and they told me the three bars was $27.89 plus shipping and handling. I have some number crunching to do with detailing products for the spring, so this just made matter worse!

oh well, if this is all the trouble I have, I am a lucky man!

The thing I liked the best about the Mothers "Showtime" spray (included as the lube in the clay kit) is when used as a detail spray, you can apply it to the whole car, and then once done, go back over and buff it all off, instead of doing a panel or 2 at a time.
