This appears to be the exact same jack I bought at Costco recently (re-badged of course). We'll see how it holds up but I love it so far.

Harbor Freight is dangerous, they have so many tools for such a cheap price, all of a sudden you start thinking, "Oh hey, I could use one of those. Man, I never thought I'd see one of those so cheap!" etc. etc. Unfortunately some of the stuff is junk, but there are a few things they get right every now and then. The easy to do stuff, like wheel chocks and items without a lot of moving or electrical parts, sometimes they can be alright.

That's for sure.....you have to pick your spots!

For the price, you just have to set your expectations, accordingly. I don't think I would buy anything too sophisticated or "mission critical" from them. There are many very positive reviews about things such as inexpensive hand tools, tool chests & cabinets, do-dads (ie. like moving dollies, tie wraps, etc.), and so forth. The jack is a little bit of a stretch and the most expensive thing I've purchased there, so it's an experiment. I have a tough, American-made monster steel jack as the primary tool....but, the new one is only 25lbs and very easy to maneuver. We'll see! (One other thing.....I was chatting with a guy the past couple of days that I purchased my US made jack from along time ago. He told me that all the US companies that made hydraulic floor jacks are no longer in business....seems like all the mfg. has been moved to the Far East. Unfortunate if it's absolutely true.)

BTW, since you brought it up, you might be interested in this site. It is trying to address the very issue of HF product quality & user experience.

This is true to me it depends on the user and how its gonna be used. I usually buy high end top quality tools. Snap on,Mac,Craftsman. Etc. But I use these things day in day out. Multiple times a day. They stand up to the use and abuse everytime.

However for things That I do once in a blue moon. I usually buy a tool from harbor freight because It spends more time in my box than its used. 2 tools I bought from harbor frieght are A Ball Joint Press kit. And a Brake Drum Service kit.

I used the Ball Joint Press twice in 3 years. And The Replaced Brake Drums only a handful of times since they are on their way out and making way for Rear Calipers.

Snap On Brake Drum Service Kit 300+ Harbor Freight I think it was 70 dollars.

For the Average Joe who works on his car on the weekends, And may use the tools once or twice a year. A few hundred dollar investment for a Top Quality tool that needs more dusting off than it gets opened. A harbor Freight tool may be the way to go. For a professional that uses the same tool day in day out A tool that can withstand more abuse is suggested.

My 2 cents. Do I shop at harbor freight Sure do. Some stuff I stay away from. Hand tools. Power tools etc. But you cant beat their price on Shop towels. Wire brushes. Cut off wheels. Dremel bits and so on and such.

I got their racing jack, too. Haven't used it yet, but all I'll use it for is seasonal changing from summer to winter tires/wheels. Hopefully, it will hold up fine for that twice a year duty. Seems to be a nice jack, but I'm no expert on jacks!

20% coupons appear all over the place.

Seems every magazine I subscribe to re: automobiles (C&D, Motor trend, AutoWeek, Popular Mechanics........) have a whole page of HF coupons toward the back of the magazine. Sometimes there are coupons in newspapers.....this week there was one in USA Today. Not only the 20% off, but also a coupon for a free tape measure (undoubtedly CHEAP, but who cares......it's a spare). When I bought the jack, I had a coupon for everything I bought......no sense in even paying their shelf prices. And, I missed their "parking lot" sale a month ago....the jack was on sale for the $59 I paid for it this past week.....and I could have used the 20% off coupon for another 12 buck savings. At $48, what a deal.......oh well. I'm sure it will come around again......and I'll just get my credit.

Look for the magazines................

My dad got that jack when he bought his vette cuz he couldn't get his old one under it. lol I thought for sure it would break after a few months... after 2 years its still workin great! I bought pretty much the same thing, but with 4 LED lights in the lifting part... pretty cool little addition that I use a lot and I got mine the same price as the regular ones...

thats a good price. I have that jack and it has been fine for about 5 years now. its light. and its the only one that will fit under my lowred Trans Am WS6.

They had problems with those jacks when they fist came out. I've seen some start to bend in the arms. I think they started using heavier gauge metal though because I have not seen or heard of the problem in a while. They are great for lower vehicles for sure.
