....ah, memories. I think I still have a can of that stuff that is at least that old laying around somewhere.
Just my two cents re: Meguiars products..... I'm like many others in these forums. I have products from a variety of brands that I use and Meguiars is among them (i.e. QID, APC, APC +, GC Car Wash, UQW and others I'm sure I'm forgetting). ....some get utilized more than others. The bottom line in my opinion is that most products they carry are at least generally good and (a big selling point for many folks) they are readily available just about everywhere. ....you really can't go wrong. Everything most people need to care for their car is available through Meguiar's various product lines.
Although I may personally favor other brands for certain tasks, Meguiars products in some form or another will always have a home in my arsensal. ....at least they have in my last 25 years of vehicle ownership.

Re: Are Maguiar's products the best on the market?
greg, i think i may know where you're coming from. when i first got interested in car detailing not too long ago, i didn't know which products to buy.
i found myself using all megs products. why? well, because i found a bottle of megs paint polish for my dad's mb under the official mb car care line. i figured, if it's good enough to be the official brand under mercedes, it should be good enough for me. pretty soon, i found myself at the nearest wal-mart/autozone picking up every megs product i could find.
overall, i've been pretty happy with my megs products, but then i started branching out after i found this website which gives you tons of reviews and access to a lot of things you won't find OTC.
megs has been around forever, so they certainly make some good products. however, that certainly doesn't mean that they have a monopoly on quality products.
i think if you carefully read the reviews for the specific category of product you're interested in, you really can't go too wrong with anything over 3 stars.

Megs is a top tier OTC product range. Anything you get, you'll enjoy and get great results.
I'd also recommend Mothers and TW Platinum for OTC products. Yes, that's right you boutique snobs , Turtle Wax, but only the Platinum range. Forget the rest, especially 'ICE'.

They no longer sell TW Platinum detailer. I considered it one of the best QDs.

I'd say they have great selection and are decent for OTC, but with a little searching there are many better products out there... it really just depends what your doing and what you like to do. Pro-weekend warrior, it really is in the eyes of the user.
I personally love and use Adams and Chemical guys. Best of both worlds IMO

Re: Are Maguiar's products the best on the market?
I think the OP wants to know about products and doesn't care about where Mike should and should't be posting.
That said, to the OP,
M39 is a great product as well. I see a lot of people mention m40 and never say m39.
*Ultimate Compound is great for getting water spots out of the paint by hand.
*M26 is also a good OTC wax.
*Hyper Dressing is a bit expensive, but not only will it last quite some time diluting it 3:1 or 4:1, but the finish is great!!
*Wheel Brightener is also another great one.
*M105 is great, but i haven't tried 205.
After going through my share of lake country pads and backig plates, I have to say that I love the megs ones! I just wish they made more sizes instead of 6.5 being their smallest. If they could do a 4" and 5.5", id be all megs for my DA and Rotary.
Their gold class brushes (which are discountinued) are also wonderful items to have if you can find them. I think proper autocare still sells them.
While the list of great products is extensive, it doesn't make it the 'best'.
Sorry if i forgot to mention anything else.

They do have tremendously deep product line.
Meg's G110 polisher is some-kind-of-wonderful in my book. Great little buffer...especially when fitted with 4 inch pads. When my first polisher died midway through my second detail, Meguiar's stood behind their product and sent me a new one. It works great!

Re: Are Maguiar's products the best on the market?
Meguiars makes some absolutely superb polishes like #105 and #205, their Interior Quick Detailer is excellent and a great 1 step polish/wax, #151. Most of the rest of their product like is good to very good. You just have to try stuff until you find what works best for you. I use Optimum, Meguiars, Clearkote, 3M, Armor All, Werkstat, Wolfgang, BioKleen and Leather Master products.
One thing for sure, Meguiars has the deepest product line of any car care company.

....a lot of their products are "decent" whether compared to OTC or "boutique" brands. Pros, enthusiasts/hobbyist and the average Joe alike commonly use Meguiars products in one form or another (just look around). .....and a few products (like M205 & M105 for example) are really oustanding in any class. Unfortunately, some will continue to automatically assume that anything sold OTC is "good for the average consumer but not for the enthusiast/pro". Personally, I think it's a shame since they are missing out on some outstanding products. ....and in some cases may be paying more for something that doesn't perform as well.

They've been making 'pro' products longer than 'consumer' ones.

Megs may have some of the best products, but another company may have one better of another. As others have said IT DEPENDS ON THE USER! I used megs for years and loved it I now have found others that I LIKE and feel they preform better then megs BUT I also pay a price for it. Megs Pro line (beige bottles) are really nice products and I still have a few of them floating around. Also some brands work better on some cars and other work better on other cars if that makes sense. Just my .02

Re: Are Maguiar's products the best on the market?
Depends who you ask and which products you talk about.
For example, I do not like ANY Meguiar's wheel & tire products that I've tried.
I'm mixed on their waxes. I love #26 and #20, do not like Gold Class, and am so-so about NXT and #16.
