Re: Are Maguiar's products the best on the market?
Mike Phillips may no longer be inclined to tell you Meguiar's is the best, though it may be for some. Meguiar's isn't necessarily the best of the best in all aspects, but I think that Meguiar's offers one of the largest assortments of high quality products that are reasonably priced and easily accessible to my knowledge. I can't think of one Meguiar's product I have bought and said "gee, this was a waste of money". I detail my own car and my customers' cars with say ~90% Meguiar's products. There are some alternatives I use because I think they produce better results, but for the most part I have found what I wanted in detailing supplies in the Meguiar's line.
As the above poster has been known to have said "find what you like and use it often".

That's true.
Just the same, anytime anyone asks for help I respond with,
What are you working on?
What are you trying to accomplish?
How are you doing your work? By hand? Rotary Buffer?
It doesn't do any good to tell a guy to buy products for a rotary buffer if he's going to do all his work by hand. Hundreds of people still own and want to use old style orbital buffers like the cheapie kind you get a K-mart and they want to remove swirls out of a clear coat but most people know these types of buffers just don't have the power for removing swirls out of clear coats it doesn't do any good to recommend products for this purpose.
Just a few details about your project will help others to provide accurate answers to your questions versus
What should I buy?

Been using that since 1994 and it's been working good all these years...

To add to Raskys list I also like:
QWD Quik Wheel Detailer (I love this stuff for the ease at rinsing off brake dust)
QID Quik Interior Detailer
UQW Ultimate Quik Wax Glass Cleaner Concentrate NXT Car Wash (Inexpensive and very effective with hard water)

I have been using Meguiar's since the days of "Harly's Carnuba" when the ticket was Meguiar's #7 and Harly's.... Professionally for over 23 years I have been using Meguiar's since 1986 on all of my customers vehicles on a regular basis, and love the results!

Re: Are Maguiar's products the best on the market?
I discovered along time ago the answer to the "who is the best" question. Now this may seem like a weird answer unless you understand how to make money in your own business. Its been 15 years and somedays i feel like i still dont have a clue.
The best painter, carpenter, salesman, chemist, architect, doctor, lawyer, ect... is the one who makes the most money. Thats it, the rest is for your own glory, or because you are just happy being where you are at your craft.
There is a line where being so unbelievably good starts too loose you money, and another line where being a butcher or hack at your profession starts too loose you money also. Put a manufacturing or production angle marketed at a target audience and you make a product to sell well to the audience you are approaching while still maintaining a profit margin.
Just my .02 from a guy who comes home dirty every day.

No, no at all. You're simply querying the validity of something someone told you.

Anyway, which products of Meguiar's would you recommend I use?
Megs is a top tier OTC product range. Anything you get, you'll enjoy and get great results.
I'd also recommend Mothers and TW Platinum for OTC products. Yes, that's right you boutique snobs , Turtle Wax, but only the Platinum range. Forget the rest, especially 'ICE'.

But you respond in forums you shouldn't about things you shouldn't. According to Autopia rules anyway. But I guess the more you pay David the more you get away with. Us little sponsors are the only ones that have to play nice.

Re: Are Maguiar's products the best on the market?
I started using Meguiar's in 1977. Since then, there has always been something in their line that I liked better than the same functional product made by everyone else. Over the same period of time, I can count the "total dog" products on one hand. I think the company has a pretty good track record of bringing solid products to market and they have what seems to be a process continuous improvement through end of life.
That said, it's important to realize that creating "the best" product available when you compete in a price sensitive arena is difficult. Meguiar's has a "quality name" recognition advantage over most of the OTC brands allowing them to have a slight price premium over other brands on the same shelf. This slight price variance results in the ability to spend a few pennies more per bottle of product, but not much.
