What the heck am I doing wrong (OPT Prod)

Ok after playing with ONR and finding the right methods for me I am very happy with the product.

Poli-Seal - I can't get this to do anything special , I've tried lot of product , little product , pol pads , fin pads , and still very average. (using pc on anywhere from 3-6).

OCW - same deal I can put it on , it looks ok , but the poop out factor is after the first water and wash . It just does not come back the way it should. Dull look to it.

I have the tire , interior protect , leather and all seem average to below average .

What am I doing wrong ?? I can't figure it out . or is it over hype / sold here.

I just did a 2 panel comparison between the new Megs #6 and the PS as both 1 steps and the slickness and looks blew the PS away .

Help guys ....

Have to remember one thing, just because certain people like product A doesn't necessarily mean you are going to like it. Not everybody is in love with the same thing. I can find 5 people who love product X and sure enough you will find a handful who don't like it at all. The nature of detailing products.

one note on poli-seal; its not extremely abrasive and should leave a very slick and glassy finish to the paint.

What steps do you take prior to applying either of the products?

i feel the same way about ps as you. was not impressed. use what i had and moved on. fk 215 is similar to ps, seems to work better for me.

very insightful. Good food for thought.

I do not get a slick finish from it , compared to others .

Re: What the heck am I doing wrong (OPT Prod)

that is strange, as regardless of what you might think of the look, I always get a super-slick finish from it, much slicker than a typical wax and right up there with a Z-2 slick feel.

My preferred use so far has been Menz 5" polishing pad at speed 5-6 on the UDM, with medium pressure for a couple of passes. I use very small amounts of product and there is no residue to buff off on 99% of the areas worked.

I see a slightly warmer look to the finish after use, like a typical wax.

Re: What the heck am I doing wrong (OPT Prod)

I too don't get a very slick finish from poliseal. But how slick is very slick? My "slick meter" may be a little off since I'm used to 4* UPP WGDPS and FK425.

I don't mind poliseal not being slick for me though since I would never leave an AIO as the LSP. I mainly use PS in place of an IPA wipedown and to help clean up any remaining light marring.

As for OCW I don't know why your getting that. The look on my car will last a few weeks/washes. Its so easy to apply that you could just retop every wash.

Which tire dressing are you talking about? I love optibond. Best dressing I've ever used. Looks great on trim and lasts quite long especially for a water based dressing.

I also like OPP+, don't know what your gripes are with this product. If you mentioned it maybe I can compare my experience with it.

Re: What the heck am I doing wrong (OPT Prod)

I found all products react a bit differently on different vehicles.
Plus, results depend on a multitude of factors: besides claying or not, humidity, barometric pressure, temperature, paint density, paint color, make of vehicle, model of vehicle, tire age and condition, clearcoat porosity, pads, how one uses equipment, etc.
When you find products you like for a specific vehicle, stay with them.
Besides, slickness, looks, etc are in the eyes of the beholder. Just look at the answers to questions such as "What's your favorite wax/sealant/QD/polish, etc?" Everyone has a different answer. Even when discussing VERY expensive wax.
That's also why it's important to do a test spot on a vehicle before going ahead and doing a whole vehicle.

Having used a lot of all the Optimum products, it's hard to imagine how someone could have such a hard time using them. Frankly, I think they are all pretty user-friendly and I use them in my shop because they produce such great results, especially for the money.

I really don't have a hard time using it , it's getting it to live up the the hype. (except for the ONR)

agreed, some like things that other's don't. for example... some like Adam's products, i think most of their stuff is over-priced and there are equally/better products/alternatives that can be found for way less money. in a nutshell, try something and find if YOU like it or not, then you will know...
