Turtle Wax Power-Out! Upholstery Cleaner with Odor-X

Product Review

Turtle Wax Power-Out! Upholstery Cleaner with Odor-X

Images available at http://www.pbase.com/theveed/interior

Brand: Turtle Wax
Country of Origin: USA
Store Purchased: Handyman Galleria
Price as purchased: P299.75
Other products used/notes: Four terry towels, Large nylon brush, removed rear view mirror, dome light, ceiling handles, visors. Product tested on a 4+ years old, never been cleaned, heavyly soiled velour, gray headliner.

Product Description:

Turtle Wax Power-Out! Upholstery Cleaner with Odor-X is formulated to deep clean, deodorize and protect upholstery in your car, truck or boat. It's hard working foam penetrates and lifts out ground-in dirt. Power-Out! helps restore your upholstery to its original color and seals out new dirt. Power-Out! contains Odor-X an odor encapsulating ingredient to help eliminate odors caused by cigarette smoke, pets, food and mildew.

Caution: When working on headliners or other overhead surfaces, you MUST wear eye protection since the product mist is harmful to human eyes. Avoid using too much product resulting to excessively damp surfaces. Test cleaner first in an inconspicuous area. If adversely affected, refrain from use.

Directions for use:
1) Vacuum loose dirt from surface.
2) Shake can well and spray evenly onto upholstery.
3) Rub foam into upholstery with bristle cap or sponge until foam disappears.
4) Wipe area with a clean cloth.

For Spot Removal:
1) Remove surface dirt or blot liquid spills with a soft cloth.
2) Remove heavy surface soil by scraping with a dull knife.
3) Cover spot with foam.
4) Vigorously rub cleaner with bristle cap or sponge until spot is gone. Blot area with a clean dry towel.

Product Review:

Pros:

Effectivity - The product works really, really well. The headliner in which this product was tested on hasn't been cleaned (at least) for more than four years (when I acquired the car from previous owner) so the stains and grime on the headliner is quite settled in and are hard to remove. The product cleaned deep stains with ease and minimal scrubbing. The product label also claims to protect the treated fabric from future stains.

Price - My purchase is a little expensive, a week after I purchased the product, I found a store (Concorde Megamall) selling it at P239.75, P60.00 less than my purchase price. I know it's not much, but it's still cheaper than my purchase price. One can covers the headliner, door panels, rear deck and two front seats with ease. It can probably cover the rear seats as well if my headliner isn't that soiled.

Scent - I like the smell of the product, it doesn't give off a petroleum smell nor an artificial fruity smell, it simply smells like a freshly cleaned upholstery. The Odor-X mixture included with the product quickly removed any musty, old fabric smell in my interior. After several weeks, the car still smells the same, clean, natural and fresh like a new car. Quite impressive considering that I have not cleaned my carpets for years.

Ease of use - Nothing more than spray (without the brush cap) enough to cover 1ft x 1ft area, let soak for 10 seconds or so, then use the provided plastic brush to remove any loose dirt. Finally, grab a clean towel and wipe the surface. You'll see all the dirt on your towel and you'll be surprised on how much dirt has been taken out.

Cons:

Original package - The can is packaged with the plastic brush attached to the nozzle. Good idea, but the nozzle just doesn't cut it. It creates a thin spray stream instead of a wide, foamy spray, causing the product to get clogged in the brush instead of the surface. Also, when spraying the can upwards (tilted back 30 degrees or more) the contents simply doesn't come out of the nozzle. It just gets collected inside the brush bristles. Luckily, the brush head can be taken out quite easily and the brush can be used separately.

Verdict:

This product is great, score a big one for Turtle Wax in my books. Other than the lousy nozzle, I can't find anything bad with this product for my car. The product works fast, easy and effectively. Unlike other liquid products, you don't run a risk of oversoaking your upholstery. I believe that when using this product with a wet and dry vacuum, a much better and easier result can be obtained. I haven't tried to intentionally stain the treated fabrics, so I can't comment on the upholstery protection claims of the product.

Odor-X works great, cutting and eliminating odors. Incorporating it with the cleaner allows me to save even more money from purchasing Odor-X separately.

Great stuff here.

Great review

I purchased a can of it this past weekend and used it on my floor mats with great success. Although I totally agree with you about the nozzle, I wound up taking of the brush and using it seperately.

Five bucks... yeah, that's about how much it translates from our currency... We don't have as much choices as you do in the U.S. I remembered when I was still living in New Hampshire, a visit to PepBoys or AutoZone is like car haven... When I was there, it wasn't that big of a deal, like you guys, it's just like another grocery for cars, but coming back here, things are so hard to find, and only 'home' brands, as I call it, like TW, Polyglaze, Simoniz are readily available, we have to go miles just to find Meguiar's, Mother's, etc...

How much are Prestone upholstery cleaners? Are they similar? I've tried other uphosltery cleaners before but I don't like the smell (petrol-like)... I prefer this one more...

I guess I didn't mind the price coz other similar products are about the same price range as the TW...

BTW, what I liked most is that, that's my wife who did the headliner cleaning, I just showed her how to do it... It's her first car cleaning job and I must say she did great... (She went over what I first did, and she cleaned it much better than I did, I guess women, if they choose to do so, can be very good detailers coz they have an eye for these kinda things...

I got a can of the Prestone at rite aid once for 3 bucks.... (I have no idea what the translation into your currency is theveed - where are you from, anyways?) so its a little less than that TW stuff. Haven't used any in awhile though so I don't know if the price went up at all.

FYI - Pep Boys is selling this product for $3.68 can. Picked up a can today. Well worth it if I can get the same results as Veed.

I find that just taking the Bissel with the upolstry attatchment (with just the normal Bissel solution) works fine. Although taking a normal scrub brush works better, and wiping the seats with a towel before vacuuming the water out helps. One question, how do your headliners get so dirty?
