Re: Looking for moderately priced carnuba/sealant...
A lot depends on the color of the car you will be waxing. An LSP designed to look exceptionally wet on blacks and darker colors usually leaves something lacking on silvers and whites.
Since I own a QuickSilver C5 Corvette I have tried about two-thirds of the LSP's you listed in an attempt to find the one that both makes the metallic flaking come through without "dulling down" the silver and add depth, wetness, and optical clarity.
To date, the only one I have found that does the job to my liking is the Pinacle Signature Series II. It is a ridiculous deal right now at Autogeek and one can will last you a loooong time. It is a WOWO product (wipe on/wipe off) so application is a breeze and does not leave nasty white residue. Really makes the silver paint on my car pop.
I have heard drawbacks because of duarability in that it does not last "months and months" on a car like synthetic sealants. Sorry, but I don't let my car go months and months without waxing so that's a non-issue for me.
On darker cars, Pinnacle's Souveran paste wax is hard to beat and is also on specal at Autogeek for this weekend. I also like Wolfgang Fuzion, Swissvax, and Zymol for the dark colored cars but you can get real expensive real quick with some of those.
Good luck on your choice and let us know how you make out with your final choice...

Re: Looking for moderately priced carnuba/sealant...
my car is silver, which is what i would use some on, but i do other peoples cars as well. I was looking at the pinnacle signature series II paste as well because of the 2 for 1 deal, but only hear about souveran so i figured the signature was not as good.
great, even more choices to buy haha

Re: Looking for moderately priced carnuba/sealant...
How do people feel about layering with the Collinite waxes (any of them)?
Is it effective to use as a base followed by a more frequently applied wax for aesthetics, or would it be used the other way around OVER a cosmetic wax as a final sealant? (I'm guessing the answer varies by which Collinite we're talking about...).
I have yet to pick any of them up, but I would like to. Any info of experience would be much appreciated, thanks.

Re: Looking for moderately priced carnuba/sealant...
i've also had good luck with the NXT 2.0. goes on pretty easy, wipes off easy, good shine, and so far, good protection over time. has lasted about 45 days so far with still very good beading, and decent shine. i'd personally recommend it as your base with one of the mentioned nuba's over it.
on the other hand of course: hard to argue against all the positive feedback about collinite 476's durability

Do I have waxes/sealants I like more than 1000P? Yes. Can it really be beaten for the money? Probably not. I love 1000P.

This is true provided your friend doesn't accidentally kick over the bottle then stand there staring at it draining out while shaking his head rather than hustling to pick it up.
But I really like Colonite 845. When applied with a PC along with a couple drops of Megs #7 it has looked better IMO than anything else I've tried (Klasse SG, AJT, Natty's Red, Pinnacle Signature Series II, and a few OTCs). For as long as I have a titanium silver car it will remain my go to wax.

|
The beading is the best in the business (assuming you like beading), and its dirt-shedding is also about as good as it gets. AFAIK it's a carnauba/synthetic blend.
It looks OK on silver but it's not the *best* looks-wise for that color (IMO). But this is only a potential issue after you've done the prep to way-better-than-most standards. If a vehicle doesn't look good, it won't be because it has Collinite on it instead of something else
For what a tin of it costs, I'd at least give it a try.

The fk is appealing b/c they have virtually everything. and the paste comes in 15oz tins, but to those who use it, how is the beading and durability.
|
People say the beading and durability are great, and my (so far) limited experience says that's true. It's a very nice product, no question about it.

Also i was curious about the s100, because it looks like p21s but idk the story.
Meguires has so many products it becomes confusing and didnt think their stuff was up to par with the rest of my suggestions.
|
Nothing wrong with P21s or Meguiar's but they're not right for everybody, every time. I don't happen to like how P21s looks on certain paints, and it doesn't last very long...for a similar look I'd go with Collinite 845 instead.
My fave Meg's wax (#16) is hard to find, but it looks similar to P21s but with *much* better beading (second only to Collinite) and infinitely better durability. If you can still find a tin of #16, it oughta last many, many years (I got a decade out of my last tin and I use it often).

another question, would anyone recommend a sealant such as poli-seal or klasse under one of the carnubas or just stick with 1 step, also layering?
|
I no longer top sealants with wax as it precludes adding *more* sealant later; I pick a wax or a sealant and just use either/or. Six layers of KSG will last a *VERY* long time, but unless you're gonna apply at least four layers I'd go with Collinite instead.

The 845 layers, never had a problem. The 486S/885 usually layers just fine but I *have* had the "pseudo hologram" effect happen, which IMO indicates solvent action so I suggest that you spit-shine it if applying the layers close together (as opposed to after a week or two).

I like 845 topped with 476S, just one of those combos that seems to work nicely for me.
I've spit-shined Souveran on top of Collinite and it seemed to give a slightly nicer look, but any difference is *really* splitting hairs. Generally, I'd apply the beauty wax *last* so the Collinite is in direct contact with the paint and the beauty wax is the stuff on top that you actually see. But generally I wouldn't bother, I'd just use the Collinite by itself.

Re: Looking for moderately priced carnuba/sealant...
thanks for the info, is the 845 similar or the same as the 885 just in liquid form? I kind of want to try a paste because it seems as if im using way too much product with the liquids, or am i just asking for more work? Ill either order some 845 or 885 as well as the fk sample kit. (I wish more companies had sample kits such as that one). I was looking for some megs 16 briefly but it must have been discontinued or something. Also i might try a hand at the carnuba moose wax, as i hear good things about it.

i prefer pastes, they don't go bad as quickly as liquids and you get more applications as well IMO (one tin will last you a long time). the FK1 sample kit is a great introduction to their products and if you don't like a particular product, it's not like you bought a whole bottle and be stuck with it...

Re: Looking for moderately priced carnuba/sealant...
Vote for the Prima Banna Gloss and Epic 2 easy to use products and great looks. Optiseal is another good product that is easy to use with good looks.Adam's Buttery wax is nice just doesn't last long . Another prima product is the Hydro which is a spray sealant that really easy to apply by spraying as you dry. I don't know if you consider the Ultima paint guard moderateley priced. But it is my favorite WOWA sealant.
