Megs APC+ is it safe?

I have searched alot on this, but no real answer. Is it safe to use this product on leather? Some say does not harm, others say that the PH level is too high and it can ruin the leather, also make it brittle. Of course the dilution would be 10:1. So it would 10 parts of water and 1 part solution or 9 parts water, 1 part solution? People say to spray on cloth, not directly on surface to apply and clean. I really only wanna use this for the interior/leather to replace megs quik interior detailer and my leather cleaner, since im running low on both, but who knows can dilute to clean engine.

Just a little article to read.

This all surface cleaner is ideally suited for today's fast paced, high volume, detail operations where one simple solution is needed for a variety of cleaning needs. It provides mixtures for heavy cleaning of engines and tires, fast interior cleaning, as well as low foam ratio for use in carpet and upholstery extraction machines. Leaves carpet clean, smelling pleasant, and the fibers soft with no sticky residue. Safe for clear plastic, glass and leather.

Re: Megs APC+ is it safe?

Just to be on the safe side, I highly recommend doing a spot test to see how the product reacts with what you're trying to clean. I also recommend spraying onto a towel first and not directly on the surface.

I use Meg's APC+ at 10:1 (10 parts water, 1 part chemical) and while it's an effective cleaner, I've noticed that on some surfaces it creates a discoloring/spotting where ever the product was sprayed on. I can't tell if the discoloring is just from it being cleaner than the other areas or because it actually took some color away, but my guess is that it's a discoloration because cleaning the area again doesn't "even" it out. I try to be more cautious now about how I'm using the product.

FWIW, I've noticed this discoloring/spotting on both leather, vinyl, and plastics. And it seems to occur more easily on the domestic vehicles (Fords, GMs) than on imports which leads me to believe that not all surfaces are affected. I don't have a problem with it at all on my Hyundai or the Saabs and Volvos in our household.

Re: Megs APC+ is it safe?

If your looking for something that is totally safe in all circumstances I suggest you use a leather specific cleaner as opposed to an APC.

Re: Megs APC+ is it safe?

I don't think any other APC or degreaser would be any different if you ask me. They all say safe for this and that but I find that some chemicals will have different reactions to different materials. You never know until you try. That's part of the reason why I've been using my steam cleaner more often on the interior. For me, it just seems more safe. But, a good APC has its place so I'll continue to use Meg's APC+. I just try to use it less often if I can.

Plus, when you think about it, if you clean with an APC, you're leaving some kind of chemical residue behind when you wipe it. With Meg's APC+, I've noticed that the surfaces have a slightly sticky feel. With steam, I have to be careful about the heat but at least all that's left behind is just water.

Re: Megs APC+ is it safe?

Here is what I do. After cleaning leather with APC, I will then lightly spray the area down with distilled water just to remove any residue that may be left behind.

Just my dos pesos.

Re: Megs APC+ is it safe?

i thought everyone used apc or apc+ for interior with good luck. Everyone says 10:1 for interior, now it seems like no one uses it. :/

Re: Megs APC+ is it safe?

Ive noticed that it leaves a sticky residue behind also. I always follow up with a wet, clean MF to remove that before moving on to a dressing.

I always use megs APC+ cut 10:1 for my interior and on leather. It will spot the leather unless you spray it on evenly. If you spray a just a little on here and there it will look awful.

Re: Megs APC+ is it safe?

Dilution of a product will not really change the acidic make up no matter how much you cut it.
