Safe OTC wheel cleaner and tire dressing?

I need a safe OTC wheel cleaner. I got some advance auto cleaner and it looks like little specs on my wheel's lip are coming off after using it. The bottle says safe for any wheel but it seems like just a marketing line?

Second of all, I searched around and tried to figure out how to tell if a tire dressing is water based or silicone based, but I couldn't find any hard facts. I want a cheap water based dressing because it seems like those are better for the tire. Any good OTC ones?

Thanks for your help.

The safest wheel cleaner is normal car shampoo and a sponge!!!!!

Re: Safe OTC wheel cleaner and tire dressing?

I've become a big fan of Meguiar's Quik Wheel Detailer.

Cleans well and leaves the wheel very slick.

As for tire dressing... I first clean the tires with my pressure washer then I use their Hot Shine Tire spray. I spray this on to an old terry pad and apply a very thin coat and it lasts long and doesn't sling.

Here is this combo on an 18 year old wheel.

and on a newer wheel.

And after three weeks and three washings it's still there.
