Newbie in-progress with System One X3 -- ??

I am starting out compounding and polishing my black Accord with X3 polish and X3 pad.

I was wondering why this product dusts so much? I know the wool pad had lint and hairs but even when using the foam pad, it keeps on dusting like mad.

Im new so, is it because I'm using too little polish or too much polish? Sometimes it flings to so I have product thats stuck on places.

??

Do I stop when the product gets hazy clear? I did sections in 2 minutes time, then switched to foam and did another 2 minutes. Swirls and scratches seem to lessen but everything is not gone yet, just minimized.

Keep at it... usually dusting is because you are using a bit too much product but also going in to it with too much rpm at first. Allow the polish to be spread to a thin layer over your working area at much lower speeds then bump it up to 1,500 rpm and work it in until it goes clear. Don't dry it out... just work it until it is clear. If there is still defects, then add more polish and work it some more. Once you are satisfied with the defect removal, turn the pad over and add only a couple drops for the foam side to polish it up.

Thank you for your tips! Yep Im sitting here waiting for your reply as I just polishing right now. I'll go use less product, wool only until defect is gone, then flip to foam and see what happens!

Bah I stopped because the sun came out and the car was too hot to do anything, piping hot. Things just dried up too fast.

I will continue tomorrow morning and use the garage if the sun comes out to play.

So today I just clayed and washed the car. Using the Riccardo clay is amazing. Clay bar in general are amazing. Just learned what Ive been missing.

Now I just gotta practice my buffing with the rotary on the fly some more. Controlling seems easy for me, I just gotta learn when to stop when the product is finished, etc. Very complicated so far.

Dude, I never seen System One not dust. It actually covered the Porsche GT2 I was working on and the Ferrari next to it in a thick cloud.

I underestimated how draining it is to do this by machine, especially if the rotary is heavy like mine is. Its my first time out so I guess its supposed to make me sore.

Yup, if your back, arms, shoulders and neck aren't really sore, you definitely haven't done your car to Autopian standards.

It is very long process too. Im doing a 98 Accord thats never been buffed before but everyone tells me Honda paint is soft and should be done correcting fast. But my defect removal is going by slow. I never pass #2 on the dial which I think is 1500RPM via wool and foam.

Here is a look at what I got done, sigh not everything is gone, but definitely looks better because I didnt know this car had black metallic. I guess everything was hidden for 10 years haha.

And you guys who do this for a living, you are amazing since it is a tough long job

did you do two passes with wool and one foam or just one pass wool and follow with foam?

With System One you can use the product in the sun. Toto did at Detailfest...You just need to add spritzes to it.

As was stated by another experienced user, you may be using too much product.

The other perma S-1 hater should be disregarded on this subject ( Just joking Todd)
