Preventing clear-coat deterioration in Arizona

I just moved to Arizona and notice A LOT of cars with that peeling look of paint/clear coat deterioration. If I have to park in the sun, will regular waxing prevent this, or is there some other action I must take?

Diligent finish care will make it last longer, but not indefinitely. In the end the sun will always win. The more you can keep it out of direct sunlight the better.
