  1. "How much to detail my car?"

    by , 12-06-11 at 01:50
This is incredibly valuable information for anyone starting out in business or trying to get started detailing a few cars on the side. I can tell you that I would not have been charging $40 for 3 hours of work if I had read this post fifteen years ago. This is amazing advice and belongs in the Bible of great advice for detailers if one is ever written. Jngrbrdman approves of this message!

  2. How thick is your paint? Not very...

Your paint is pretty darn thin. Somewhat thinner than a Post-It note if you wanted to compare. My brother in law had a POS van where the paint was peeling right off of it. I took out my old school paint thickness gauge just to see what it would tell me. I bought mine on ebay for like $30 bucks I think, but if you google it and look around then you can find them for about $60 on the interwebs.

  3. Extreme interior cleaning

    by , 11-29-11 at 07:09
I did some grizzly cleaning on a Honda Odyssey not long ago. It is actually owned by the same guy that owns the jet I detailed last weekend. This is their shuttle vehicle from the hanger to wherever now. Anyway, the thing hadn’t been really cleaned beyond just vacuuming for something like 6 years. This is exactly the reason I won’t ever have tan, beige, white, brown, or any other color of leather in my car other than black, dark grey, charcoal, or something like that. Light colored interiors ...
  4. Wheel Cleaning

    by , 11-29-11 at 07:02
I think some of you have seen the wheel brush I use and know my process. I just wanted to show off some of the results since wheel cleaning is kind of a chore that none of us like to do. However, it is also the first thing I look at when buying a used car. If the wheels are pitted and corroded, then I can be pretty sure that the rest of the car was neglected as well. There is no reason to believe they took the time to clay and polish their car if they were content with brake dust coating their ...
  5. For anyone who doesn't believe you can get swirls out with a DA...

    by , 11-29-11 at 07:58
I have heard this for years that you can't remove swirls with a DA. There are clearly two camps that say either you can or cannot. Well, I'm in the camp that says if you can't remove swirls with a DA, then I wouldn't recommend trying with a rotary polisher because you clearly don't know what you are doing. Swirls can and will come out with a DA if you are using the right process and products. If you try to remove them with just a damp pad, then yeah... you'll have some difficulties. With my ...
