March Xtreme Detail: Hyundai Swirl Fe!

This Santa Fe was previously run through many car washes, only to be molested by the brushes to a terrible degree. The vehicle belongs to my neighbor, who insists that it only gets run through touchless washes now. Good to hear...

Over the period of two days, my process was:

Day 1:
Wash lower half of vehicle with ProtectAll Quick and Easy Wash + 2oz PB's Spray and Gloss mixed in.
Polish lower half with PB's SSR2.5 and Propel yellow pad via PC. Spread on speed 1, work in on speed 6. (Some areas required two passes with SSR2.5, and I used the orange pad for the 2nd pass)
Polish lower half with PB's SSR2 and Propel2 green pad via PC. Spread on speed 1, work in on speed 6.
Apply Clearkote Vanilla Moose by hand with Wolfgang Polishin' Pal and blue Propel Turbo 4" pad, remove with Excel blue Supreme MFs.
Wash wheels/wells/tires, dress with PB's Natural Look.

Day 2:
Wash entire vehicle with Protectall Quick and Easy Wash + 2oz of Spray and Gloss mixed in. Polish rest of vehicle with SSR2.5 and orange Propel pad via PC, then SSR2 and green Propel2 pad via PC.
Apply Clearkote Vanilla Moose to these areas.
Wash glass and apply Vanilla Moose to them by hand.
Apply Meguiars PlastX to headlights/taillights with Excel round MF applicator.
Apply Nattys Blue Paste Wax to entire vehicle. Allow to sit for 15 minutes, then remove with Excel blue Supreme MF.

BEFORE

This was my test fender - the first panel I did to tell me what steps I will need to take on the rest of the vehicle to get the swirls out, assuming they are of similar severity throughout the vehicle. Obviously it was *before* I washed the wheels/tires/wheelwells.

Lots more coming...

Note: the light-colored spots in the following photos are reflections off of my car. You'll notice that they follow the camera around.

On day 2 this is what I had to start with...

But after the frost melted/evaporated, I was able to finish up and snap some more pics.

Significant orange peel in this shot, but I like it anyway.

In this project I learned that orange pads may be intimidating with their very firm feel, but they are your best friend when dealing with bad swirls. I also learned that detailing can be frustrating as you wait for frost to get off of the vehicle!

All done...

I have now learned to appreciate proper background selection photo etiquette. A.k.a. PBSPE......

Kidding Paul, you really turned something embarrassing to be driving in, to quite admirable......nice work!!

Patrick, there isn't much for a background in an apartment complex parking lot.

Sludge, it was nice to work on a darker color for a change, but it's gotten me anxious to do the whole process on my car soon.

Took me a while to figure out the reflection of your wash bucket. Great Job!
