March entry: JDM MR2

Hello fellow Autopians:

This is my first time entering the Xtreme Detailing Contest.

The following outlines my progress, and I want the car to be evaluated upon the removal of the severe scratches and clouded paint.

This is my entire progress with the car, and I took 15 hours to complete the job~~~

-Cleaned the poorly touched-up areas with Dawn
-Wet-sanded away surface rust near the scratches
-Touched up with a fine painter's brush with univeral black paint
-Wet-sanded with 1500 and painted until leveled, and wet-sanded with 2000

-Washed with Simoniz Wash
-Clayed with Meguiars Professional Mild Clay
-Wet-sanded the clouded areas with 2000
-Buffed those areas with Wool pad on Makita 9227 with initally #83 (but ran out of it, so continued with #82)
-Full car polished with Norton finishing pad on Makita 9227 with #82
-Full car waxed with Meg Deep Crystal Polish mixed with Meg #16

-Touched up some chipped paint on the rims with univeral black paint
-Waxed the rims with Mothers Cleaner Wax
-Endurance tire gel
-Turtle Wax F21 protectant on mudguard and plastics trims

All the photos can be found on this thread "Rescued JDM MR2"

PS. Can anyone PLEASE tell me how to attach the photos that are on the "Rescued JDM MR2" thread onto this thread???? PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!! ^_^

Thanks!!

Victor

Have you read this thread? http://autopia.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44509

It'd probably be better to post the actual pics rather than attach them.

Hello fellow Autopians:

I finally have the pics ready!!

Lesson learned:

I exercised a lot patience and self control during the scratch repairs. I have also learned to gradually built up touch up paint with a fine artist paint brush until the surface is level with the rest of the paint surface. I have also gained experience in wet sanding. I wet sanded the faded paint surface with 2000 grit paper 5 strokes each run. I then checked for progress. I buffed the surface with #83 at setting 1.5 on the Makita buffer. I then reassessed the surface. I repeated this procedure around 5 times on that surface. I used the same procedure to treat the clouded paint surfaces.

Nice recovery!
I'm wondering what is JDM about that MR2? It looks just like all the MR2's we have running around here.

...although I do see it has right hand drive. Hmmm....

Hmmm.........this particular model is a G-Limited, and packs a 165 horsepower naturally aspirated engine. I have heard that the US-spec naturally aspirated engine can only muster out 142 horsepower....................the catch? The catch is that the JDM car drinks only supreme fuel...............

It is visible for everybody.

But instead of links, type behind them. They will appear.

Oh cool. That is different from the US spec. Sorry about that, you know how JDM gets tossed around so much lately it's hard to determine whether it's really something you can only get in Japan, or if it's just another Toyota with 4" exhaust.

As far as posting pics, when you post a reply (not a quick reply), there's an icon that looks like a square with the picture of a mountain in it. You can use that icon to post a pic.

Dear fellow Autopians!

I am wondering how would I know whether I am fortunate enough to win the monthly Xtreme Detailing Prize? I recognize the Mustang Cobra as a stiff competition, and I am wishing to know when the winner will be announced~~~

Thanks!!

Victor
