July XTREME Detail

Ok guys here is a slightly more expanded version of the one that I have originally posted.

I entered this as I felt the Fiesta was really in rough shape and qualifies as it really did need A LOT of work.

I’m going to list the problem areas and then point them out in the photo as well, just in case you don’t catch them

Bird etching, swirls, scratches, oxidised paintwork, bad paint job, touch up on chips.

Firstly ill go through the exterior of the car.

The products used were as follows.

All carried out with a PC.

Wash : NXT wash with two bucket method and two micro fibre mitts.
Degrease : Meguiars APC Door jambs and lower half of car, as well as inside and outside of windows.
Wheels : Meguiars Wheel Brightener.
Clay whole body/wheels and windows.
Polish : SSR2.5 and 1Z IP with cutting pad
Glaze :#7 and VM
Seal : NXT

Firstly you see the car how we received it;

Bird etchings here and lots of nice swirls, a generally dirty and ill treated car.

Flattened down some poor touch up jobs; I used 2000 grit paper and a cutting pad with SSR2.5 to remove the 2000 grit marks.

Two tone paint job….not on purpose!!

Before and after close up on bonnet (hood). Below shows the bonnet after 3 passes of ssr2.5 with a cutting pad.

Key chips I guess ?? This was repaired by rubbing down the affected area then polishing with ssr2.5 and finally filling them with some turtle wax (cringe) chip stick: not permanent I know but we did not have that colour of paint to hand.

How it left under 1000 w halogens/fluorescent and sunlight. Very little swirling left.

Interior

Ok this was not too bad, the seats needed cleaned and all the plastic needed degreased and cleaned, it was tricky because of the nature of the plastic being textured but we got through it!

Just a meguiars APC throughout and dressed with Meguiars natural look.

Some cheap MF's

Very good work. I'm especially impressed with how well the PC and SSR2.5 was able to remove the left over marring from the wetsanding.

Yes very good work JJ, the car looked fairly badly swirled, and I think you did a great job to get it back to great condition, good luck in the compo

JJ, nice work and good luck May I ask, how long did it take you to correct the sandpaper work? I have some touch-up to do on my own Fiesta, so if you have any advice that would be great!

Took 5/10 mins max. I just levelled the "blob" and then polished up. Pretty easy to be honest.

Very nice work! Can I ask what make of pads you used? Also, how would you compare Wheel Brightener to a strong dilution of APC? I'm about to buy some of Megs APC but I'm still wondering whether I need their Wheel Brightener as well.

I use the meguiars cutting, polishing and finishing pads.

I would go with wheel brightener too as I feel it does actually brighten the wheel up and seems to work a bit better than APC ( which I normally use for arches, door jambs interior etc.)

Excellent job! Especially on the touch up paint improvements. Can't even tell where the blob was.
