Those are some strong rules. What about contestants in areas like Winnipeg, where there is never any good lighting?

I agree Steve, they are pretty strict. Picture of all your equipment and polishes, thats going to be a big picture.

Not to stir the pot, but it really is just pictures. It's not hard to take pictures of all the products and process. I think the rules set an equal stage for everyone entering the contest. Follow the rules or don't enter. I apologize, my controversial and antagonist split personality is here today.

JJ, I was j/k about the product pictures

On a more serious note...
Jon: Not to overthink it or anything but by the way you are describing our entries it seems like we need lots of pictures to cover all of our work and the different aspects. I hope this doesn't become unfair to people on 56k who can't view all the pictures and hesitate to vote.
Don't want another Florida recount

The rules havent changed much. It was pretty much always stated to take good before and afters with same angle and good lighting. If sunlight is an issue then buy a 500 or 1000 watt hologen lights from home depot for 30 bucks. Very good investment. From my previous expierence since a detail may take 8 hours or more do during shots. Tape off half the hood or trunk lid and leave one side unpolished and do your magic on the other side. This is the best way to make a fair comparison of the difference your work made on the area.

The only rule I dont like:

No entries will be accepted unless the following requirements are met.
a. You have not won twice in the past six months

J/K

I think the rules are very fair. Its so hard to judge details by pictures on the internet there has to be some control and standards to make the results viewed fair. I dont think its right to show heavy messed up hood in direct sunlight then show an after without the same lighting. Grant it the sun isnt the same angle at all times and isnt out all the time like we would want it, but that''s why I suggested the hologen purchase I mentioned above.

Good luck to all the future entries.

I think the lighting issue will be OK, the pictures for the entry I did in Jan were taken on a wet winters day - in a garage with a 500W.

No one can question a half n half picture with an overlapping light reflection.

Also not trying to stir the pot but the rules say no professional detailers. By definition a professional is anyone who is paid for thier services, that would exclude 95% of the possible entries. Am I taking the rules to literally?

We are not talking about the guy whoe does friends cars for beer money.
We don't want the high end detailers competing against first time detailers.
We are trying to make the contest fair and fun.
