How far would you go??
To protect your car, that is (or atleast avenge its intentional, avoidable dammage while you witness it??)
I'm wondering because I was out getting pizza for dinner, and just as I had gotten back in the car with the pizzas, this car full of 20-some year olds (not too much older than myself) pulled into the parking space next to me, just inches away from my car. The back door opened, and slammed against my car.
I instantly jumped out of my car and went to inspect the dammage (there was none luckilly)..... but the guy driving the car looked at me and said "what are YOU lookin at, looser??" (keep in mind this was a rusty old chevy corsica).....
I replied, "I'm lookin to make sure your idiot friend didnt dent or scratch my car..... he's lucky he didnt"
his reply: "lucky huh?? like YOURE gonna do anything about it...."
me: "uhh.... yeah. I charge $50. to repair a scratch, more to repair a dent. Your buddy there WOULD have had to pay me the $50. to repair my own car, but he didn't dammage it, so all's good. I just had to make sure before I left."
him: "well leave before I decide to take about $50. worth of dammage out of your a$$!!"
I left, so I wouldnt get assaulted, but it just really torks me off that these idiots act like that!! I don't know personally if I would've stuck arround to get my money if there had been dammage or not, because it would've meant possibly making a side-trip to the hospital on the way home.
My question is: what would you do, given a similar situation??

Many years of karate...( and a D#mn good shot with a .45)
No really... call the police. dial 911 if you think the perp will attack you ( by dialling 911 the whole thing will be recorded for the judge to hear.) Buy & keep a cheap throw away camera in the glovebox for pics. If he worked for the pizza place go in & ask the mgr for a claim form, his name rank etc. for your attorney.
Mike
been there done that... right after coming out of the paint shop
parked WAAAAY the heck out at the street, to find some smuck parked inches from me with a crease & chip that matched his vehicle to mine. Do you know how hard Pearl White was to do in the 70's??? Man, I was perturbed.

I know a lot of people would say that they'd do this or they'd do that, but you did the right thing. There are so many nut cases out there today that won't stop at simple assault, and many won't hesitate to use a weapon. Let it go, take a deep breath and keep on truckin' as they say. If he had done damage, you should just take a good look to make sure you can i.d. them, them get in your car and note their license plate. Chances of the police doing anything are slim and none, but you could push the threat issue a bit if you wanted, especially if you had a witness. Still, your best bet is to just go on with life, especially if you could repair the damage yourself.

I think I would explode if these idiots came near my car (when I get one.) I would quietly wait for them to exit, circle around the block and come back and slash the tires, bust a rock into the windshield, pour fluids through the broken windshield (grape soda, and red wine) if it was at night. During the day time, just get some people over (a call on the cell phone) and sit there and wait.
People like those you encountered today just make me want to carry a few nice toys in my car, a 9mm or 45 under the seat, a knife in the glove compartment (bayonet actually) and some surprises in the trunk (CAR 15, Benelli 10 gauge, and tactical concealment gear.) Then the laws of NYC come into play, murder, assault rifle restrictions, carry licenses.......
I should stop watching all these war and violent action flicks.

A little extreme perhaps, but nice taste in "hardware".
It's tempting these days to pack something to deal with nutjobs, but the only people who do are usually the ones who should be locked up
In the situation SLD described I would've ignored his little jibe and said nothing, but if there was any damage then I'd have to talk to him and it'd probably end up with me reporting him for hit and run. People who say those kind of things don't connect their thinking with reality and have really fragile egos. They have to constantly assert themselves over other people to feel good. Morons.

Keep little items in your vehicle that aren't weapons, but could be used as wepons. When did I learn this?
When I was twelve my brother had just gottne his license. We went to wal-mart to pick up so stuff, and happened to pick up one of those huge 3 ft dog bone for the dog to chew on. We're stopped at a redlight, and suddenly somone appears at his window screaming. he cracks teh window, and some 35 year old man tried to grab him!! He got out and the man tired to fight, so he took the bone out and the man ran.

In my case
I'd would do my best to walk away even though I have mikebmab's background (except for the .45 shot). If things do get hairy, I'd bring a few of them down with me.
I would suggest carrying one of those extra gas can containers. 1)Fill it up, go back to their car, pour it fast and light it with a match.
2) Cackle with insane glee.
3) Retrieve the baseball bat in your trunk and use it on them while they are disoriented.
4) when you are done, smash the baseball bat at the bottom of the spine of the yapping punk to paralyze him leg down.
5) Return to step 2
6) Retrieve their mothers and have them watch while you go back to step one.

As per 4DSC reply
I still like Jason's reply. It's not like those punk are worth spending money for Social security. I say we take ehm out, grind their flesh while they are still concious and use them as fertilizers. We'll save on precious oxygen and make our crops greener.
But, you're right, although going all Medieval will make me personally feel good and being in that situation would make me want to taste blood, walking away would be the smart and hardest thing to do.
