It really depends on the model.
BMW M5 or MB S430 - M5 for me.
BMW 750iL or MB S55 AMG - S55 AMG for me.
BMW M Coupe or MB CLK55 AMG - CLK55 AMG for me.
BMW 330Ci or MB C240 - 330Ci for me.
I can't decide!!!!!

For the high-end models I like Mercedes Benz and for the lower-end models I like the 3 & 5 series. The Mercedes SL's have got to the most beautiful (new) cars on the road...and I see plenty of them here in LA.
IMO, it's pretty SAD that even Mercedes' AMG line for the E class and above do not come with a manual transmission (Someone correct me if I'm wrong about this).

BMW for fun. More of a drivers car for a sedan. Also they have a better Formula 1 Program.
When they finally start selling the Z3 V-8 and improve the workmanship ( the US made models) I will retire my small block V8. What a sweet looking car.
I got 150,000 miles on my 320i before it needed a clutch. My nephew is now driving it and it has over 225,000. As solid as a rock through 15 New England winters. Neighbor's MB did not fair as well.
Yeah BMW.

Two years ago you would have had an arguement. But today the facts speak for themselves. Also they probably have the best driver in F1 today ( M Schumacher is at another level - god-like)... Juan Montoya. Could he beat Schumacher if he was driving a Ferrari.
Constructors' Championship Points
1 Ferrari 72
2 Williams 54
3 McLaren 24
4 Renault 11
5 Sauber 8
6 Jordan 4
99 Saab 0 ( never scored a single World Championship Pt)

BMW!
BMW is the Ultimate Driving Machine
Best engines, best transmissions. M-B is influenced by Chrsyler. The C240 is a perfect example; really a Chrysler.
And concerning the F1 teams, Michael Schumacher is the greatest driver ever. If he drove for the Williams team, they would be leading the points race. How is Schumacher's teammate doing compared to Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya?

Both are fine automobiles...I perfer Mercedes just from the point that I am acccustomed to them and a friend deals them. A down side is that they do not offer the manual, but my AMG has triptronic which eases my soul a tad.

Best engines.... Ferrari - outstanding record for finishing races.
If M Schumacher drove for Williams or McLaren he would be in 2nd or 3rd place in points if Rubins or even Juan had the present day Ferrari #1 car at their disposal. I love Mike but even he can not over come a inferior race car ( in comparason to the Ferraris). Remember race positioning is determined by tenths and hundreds of seconds. This difference is determined by the car, tires, and engine. Michael in a Jordan would just be a also ran but not the points leader.
Sorry
Best of all time.... by record yes... by rare talent cut short ..Aryton Senna. He was not god-like with a car he was a god. Even the great M. Schumacher will have a problem beating his record for pole positions ( Senna - 65 , M Schumacher - 46) and will require at least 50 more races to do so. Maybe less if Barrichello lets up.

well i think everyone on this board knows what i voted for. I personally prefer Mercedes-Benz vehicles. They seem to be more luxurious and better quality vehicles. Compare the materials on a mercedes to a bmw. For example, the new X5 dashboard feels like a cork bulletin bord, when I sat in it, I wanted to post notes on the dash with thumbtacks. Mercedes vehicles always have very soft touch materials and excellent quality leather, while BMW vehicles have very poor leather (Montana leather), that easily wears and has a rough texture. DK even said BMW leather sucked. Granted BMWs do drive slightly more enthusiastically, I would rather have a very luxurious vehicle with much better safety instead of the ultimate driving experience. Better handling doesnt make up for the feel and smell of the interior and quality of the vehicle. My $0.02.
however, with all this said, BMW is still one of my favorite cars.
