What Jake said, it's all about price. Set a budget first than you can work around it.
I wouldn't skimp on the HU, though. A good one can have some excellent crossover/EQ controls and I'd look for something with at least 3 RCA outputs (front/rear/sub) and 4V preamp.
I currently have about $4k worth of stereo equipment in my dub but $1k with proper installation and selection can make things sound just as good. But I'm also a recording engineer, so it was a tax write-off. :wink:
