I guess you could get by with a 5" backing plate, but a 6" would work a lot better as I don't think you're gonna like having all that extra flop or overhang.

Despite the manufactures' attempts to advertise otherwise, no wool pad should ever be associated with the word "polish." Wool is for heavy cutting only. With that said the lambswool pads are slightly less aggressive than the twisted wool variety.
